Multi-Radio Terminals With Different Intermediate Frequencies

US Patent:
2004019, Oct 7, 2004
Filed:
Feb 7, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/359812
Inventors:
Philip Coan - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
H04B001/10
H04B007/005
H04B007/01
US Classification:
455/552100, 455/504000, 455/296000
Abstract:
Terminals with multiple radio units employing different IF frequencies for RF to IF frequency downconversion are provided. Each radio unit is operative to process a respective input signal with a respective LO signal to provide a respective IF signal having a desired IF component at an IF frequency selected for that radio unit. The input signal for each radio unit includes RF components at different RF frequencies. The desired IF component for each radio unit corresponds to a downconverted version of one of the RF components in the input signal. The IF frequencies for the radio units are selected such that the desired IF components for these radio unit do not overlap one another in frequency. The IF frequencies may be selected such that, for each radio unit, the undesired IF components fall outside of the IF passband selected for that radio unit and may thus be filtered out.

Inventors:
Stanley S. Toncich - San Diego CA, US
Philip D. Coan - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
QUALCOMM INCORPORATED - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H04B 17/00
H04B 1/16
US Classification:
4552263, 4553431
Abstract:
Exemplary embodiments are directed to reducing jamming caused by radiated fields generated by wireless power transmitters. Exemplary embodiments include detecting a jamming condition of a wireless power receiving device resulting from a radiated field from a wireless power transmitter of a charging device. Such embodiments include synchronizing the wireless power coupling with communication of the wireless power receiving device. Synchronizing wireless power coupling may include wireless power coupling at a first level when the wireless power receiving device is expected to receive a signal on a communication channel. Synchronizing wireless power coupling may further include coupling at a higher rate when the wireless power receiving device is not expected to receive a signal on the communication channel.

Adaptive Digital Predistortion Of Complex Modulated Waveform Using Localized Peak Feedback From The Output Of A Power Amplifier

US Patent:

Appl. No.:
12/430753
Inventors:
Aracely W. Forrester - San Diego CA, US
Philip D. Coan - La Jolla CA, US
Paul J. Draxler - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
QUALCOMM INCORPORATED - San Diego CA

Exemplary embodiments of the invention includes an amplifier and a processor that adapts a baseline or previous model of the input-output signal characteristic of the amplifier using metrics of the system, including peak power, peak voltage, average power, root mean square (RMS) voltage, samples of the output signal of the amplifier, etc. In particular, the system comprises an amplifier; a device to measure a metric of the system; a processor to generate a present model of the input-output signal characteristic of the amplifier based on the system metric as determined through a localized sampling window of the output signal; and a predistortion device to predistort the input signal for the amplifier based on the present amplifier model.

Nonlinear Equalizer To Correct For Memory Effects Of A Transmitter

US Patent:
2011006, Mar 24, 2011
Filed:
Sep 24, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/566479
Inventors:
Aracely Forrester - San Diego CA, US
Philip David Coan - La Jolla CA, US
Paul Draxler - San Diego CA, US
Roberto Rimini - San Diego CA, US
Bruce Judson - San Luis Obispo CA, US
Joseph Patrick Burke - Glenview IL, US
Assignee:
QUALCOMM INCORPORATED - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H04L 27/01
US Classification:
375232
Abstract:
Techniques for correcting for memory effects of a transmitter are described. In an exemplary design, a receiver obtains input samples including a desired signal transmitted by a transmitter having memory effects. The receiver performs nonlinear equalization on the input samples to obtain first equalized samples, performs linear equalization on the input samples to obtain second equalized samples, and determines output samples based on the first and second equalized samples. The nonlinear equalization corrects for the memory effects and nonlinearities of the transmitter and possibly nonlinearities and memory effects of the receiver. The receiver may jointly determine coefficients for both linear and nonlinear equalization based on an adaptive algorithm. The receiver processes (e.g., demodulates and decodes) the output samples to recover data sent in the desired signal by the transmitter.
