Raymond Abercrombie, 17, was raised on the East Side of Chicago and began to tackle the Arts in his junior year of high school. He attended DeVry University's Advanced Academy, which enabled him to achieve his high school diploma alongside an Associate’s Degree in Web Graphic Design at the age of sixteen. His writing began when he joined the Poetry Club, to impress the young women at first. Later on in the year, he was introduced to Louder Than a Bomb (a Chicago teen poetry festival). During his first year in the competition, his team made it to semi-finals, and their group piece of poetry went on to be recognized as the Best Public Service Announcement in for that year’s competition. Next year his team once again made it to the semi-finals but no further, though shortly after their final bout Raymond was asked to compete in the finals as a individual poet due to his high scoring with the judges on his piece titled "Picture this: A Nerd with a Camera and a Love Story". After his graduation in the year 2010, Raymond began performing not only poetry but also musical pieces across the Chicago land area. Many of these places included his performance as a poet in the English Class Heretics: LTAB In Concert at Victory Gardens, his performance at the Museum of Contemporary Arts 3Arts 2011 Awards, as well as a performance at the 2011 Chicago Jazz Festival Stage: Jazz on Jackson and many more locations. In late September, he joined with YOUmedia, who alongside Lindblom Math and Science Academy and The Museum of Contemporary Art, collaborated with world-renowned artist Mark Bradford in the Mark Bradford Project. The artist worked with students to create work inspired by ideas of Mapping, Community, and Neighborhood. The finished works of art were displayed at (Re) Connect: The Mark Bradford Project-Student Gallery Showcase which at the Pop-Up Art Loop Gallery, 205 S. State Street from May 25th through June 2nd, 2011. As of late, Raymond has been in the works of creating a few original musical pieces due to release near fall.
