Apparatus For Edge Processing Work And Particularly Non-Circular Work

US Patent:
4010502, Mar 8, 1977
Filed:
May 15, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/577722
Inventors:
Richard D. Cushing - Newton NH
Alfred E. Beck - Exeter NH
Assignee:
Circle Machine Co., Inc. - Seabrook NH
International Classification:
A43D 700
US Classification:
12 867
Abstract:
Apparatus for processing the margins of work, both circular and non-circular, has a rotatable work holder provided with a clamping member to clamp work against a template. The processing is typically that of bringing the work to the size and shape established by the template and is effected by at least one tool. The disclosed apparatus has a pair of tools, both rotatable and each having a different function and the tools and their drive are carried by structure provided with means to reciprocate it between an inoperative position and a position in which the tools are in engagement with the periphery of the work. When the work is non-circular, the work holder and its drive so turn the work that its periphery advances into contact with the tools at a controlled rate. When work is to be processed without turning it two or more times, it is so turned that the zone first engaged by the tools is again engaged by them before the work holder is stopped in its predetermined starting position and, in the disclosed embodiment, the work holder is first moved to a predetermined minor extent in a reverse direction and is then rotated in a forward direction until the predetermined starting position is twice reached. The tool unit, its drive and that for the work holder are within a cabinet having a door behind which the tool unit is located.

Rotary Sprayers For Applying Uniform Coats To Conveyor Supported Work

US Patent:
4433640, Feb 28, 1984
Filed:
Apr 7, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/251868
Inventors:
Alfred E. Beck - Exeter NH
Richard D. Cushing - Newton NH
Assignee:
Circle Machine Co., Inc. - Seabrook NH
International Classification:
B05C 500
US Classification:
118323
Abstract:
A rotary sprayer has a rotor centrally of a conveyor and spaced therefrom with its axis normal thereto. The rotor supports a series of spray heads so spaced from its axis as to establish arcuate paths for them across the conveyor as the rotor is rotated. The spray is discharged to coat the work carried by the conveyor as the spray heads cross the conveyor and during such crossing their travel relative to the arcuate paths is so varied that the thickness of the deposited layer is substantially uniform wherever applied. The rotor has a chamber through which the spray material passes and which provides an air cushion absorbing momentary pressure increases occurring as the valves of the spray heads close and minimizing pressure drops as valves open.

Apparatus For Spraying Articles Carried By A Conveyor

US Patent:
4151808, May 1, 1979
Filed:
Mar 10, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/776105
Inventors:
Alfred E. Beck - Exeter NH
Richard D. Cushing - Newton NH
Assignee:
Circle Machine Co., Inc. - Seabrook NH
International Classification:
B05B 302
US Classification:
118 2
Abstract:
Apparatus for use in spraying articles, hides for one example, while being carried on a conveyor has a rotatable spray unit supported over the conveyor and its radial arms are provided with spray heads, each under the control of a normally closed valve opened by air under pressure. A series of controls are provided, each including a sensing unit and the sensing units are arranged as a series extending transversely of the conveyor and dividing the conveyor into lengthwise sections with each unit operated by the passage of a part of a hide along that section and when operated providing a signal substatially equal to the length of that part and so controlling the delivery of air to the control valve of each head traversing that conveyor section as to provide that spray is delivered only when and for the time that the detected part is within the spray path.
