Cross-Connectors For Tubular Members Forming Frameworks

US Patent:
5797697, Aug 25, 1998
Filed:
Aug 23, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/701872
Inventors:
Richard D. Keller - Takoma Park MD
International Classification:
F16B 208
US Classification:
403384
Abstract:
An interruptible connector assembly adapted for the interlocking spatially of one tubular member with another object to be supported thereby, comprising: flexible clamp band adapted to be deformed into a U-shape and overlap any underlying planar surfaces; a two-component, rigid support means, with each structurally identical component, and having an at least partially arcuate proximal one end, such opposing arcuate surfaces adapted to nest a tubular member; a linear bore hole traversing of each of said clamping components; spherically faced cylindrical bushings, to slidingly engage the bore hole of its associated clamping component and each having at its shoulder contacting the adjacent support means; an elongate, assembly fastener means to slidingly traverse the aligned assembly via the component bore holes, being of a length sufficient to extend from one external side of the assembly to the other external side about the interlocked two tubings in a variable angle juxtaposition. In a second embodiment, two of the above-described clamps are conjoined axially to interconnect two tubular members in any one of several angles. In another embodiment, the elongate bolt is provided with an integral fixed collar projecting radically and located proximal to one longitudinal end, serving as a retaining wall for end-mounted accessories.

Optogalvanic Intracavity Quantitative Detector And Method For Its Use

US Patent:
4402606, Sep 6, 1983
Filed:
Feb 25, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/238236
Inventors:
Edward F. Zalewski - Gaithersburg MD
Richard A. Keller - Los Alamos NM
Charles T. Apel - Los Alamos NM
International Classification:
G01J 330
G01N 2172
US Classification:
356315
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to an optogalvanic intracavity detector and method for its use. Measurement is made of the amount of light absorbed by atoms, small molecules and ions in a laser cavity utilizing laser-produced changes in plasmas containing the same atoms, molecules, or ions.

Linear Load Circuit To Control Switching Power Supplies Under Minimum Load Conditions

US Patent:
5285367, Feb 8, 1994
Filed:
Feb 7, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/832233
Inventors:
Richard A. Keller - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
Power Integrations, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
H02M 3335
US Classification:
363 21
Abstract:
An embodiment of the present invention is a switching power supply comprising a transformer with a primary and two secondaries, a switching transistor in series with the primary, a rectifier and filter on one secondary to provide regulated output power, a feedback control circuit that monitors the secondary and adjusts the duty cycle of an on-off control signal to the switching transistor to maintain a constant output at the terminals, and a monitor that detects when the power level flowing through the switching regulator has dropped to a predetermined minimum and then linearly turns on a load to the transformer. Transistor is typically a power MOSFET. The monitor tracks a summing junction current before any slope compensation is added. Load is a shunt regulator that is activated when the summing junction current falls below 12% of full scale. Alternatively, the predetermined value of 12% is adjustable.

Squeeze-Actuated Medicinal Fluid Applicator

US Patent:
5498237, Mar 12, 1996
Filed:
Jan 31, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/381565
Inventors:
Richard D. Keller - Takoma Park MD
International Classification:
A61M 5178
US Classification:
604438
Abstract:
A squeeze-activated fluid applicator for human manipulation is provided to express the medicinal contents of rupturable capsules; the devise consisting of a shell-like, elongate member of uniform diameter adapted to receive slidingly at its proximal open end an elongate cylindrical member. A cantilever member is adapted to be pivotally mounted midway of the inner elongate member, with a vertical piston operatively connected to the cantilever proximal end, while a strong upward spring bias is provided on the cantilever distal end. A push rod located axially of the cylindrical member can be hand activated to dislodge a bias-arrest feature on the cantilever and to cause the piston to close into a proximal face capsule chamber of the cylindrical member, compressing and expressing the enclosed contents into an adjacent port.

Switching Regulator Power Supply

US Patent:
4037271, Jul 19, 1977
Filed:
Dec 3, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/747229
Inventors:
Richard A. Keller - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
Boschert Associates - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
H02M 3335
US Classification:
363 21
Abstract:
A switching regulator electronic power supply for 115 volt A. C. operation rectifies and filters to provide approximately 170 volts of unregulated D. C. to the primary winding of a power conversion transformer. In series with the primary winding is a transistor power switch controlled by a pulse width modulator whose ON-time is determined by the rectified D. C. voltage level, and whose OFF-time is controlled by an output voltage sensor and a current limiter that provide duty cycles that assure a constant D. C. voltage level from the rectified and filtered output of the power supply.

Golf Tee And Ball Setter

US Patent:
5540432, Jul 30, 1996
Filed:
Jan 31, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/381566
Inventors:
Richard D. Keller - Takoma Park MD
International Classification:
A63B 5700
US Classification:
473386
Abstract:
A portable device for non-stooping placement of golf balls and golf tees on site comprising an elongated tubular shaft with specially modified ends. The lower shaft end has a golf ball holding pincers and an adjacent dual tine, fork-like tee holding socket and tee retrieving device. The upper shaft end comprises a biased trigger mechanism cantilevered to actuate the upper end of an elongate solid rod disposed slideably within the shaft, and with the rod lower end adapted to carry a horizontal flange which reciprocates between the tee clamping position and a tee supporting position. The device is adapted for sequentially setting a tee in the desired ground and then placing the golf ball on the spotted tee while the golfer remains in a standing position throughout. More broadly, there is provided a dissimilar objects grasping and placement device having a hand gripping and actuating longitudinal first end and oppositely extended object grasping second end, which provides for alternate loading and placement of unlike objects such as driving tee and golf ball.

Accessory Device And Mount For Wheelchair

US Patent:
5873591, Feb 23, 1999
Filed:
Feb 28, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/808198
Inventors:
Richard D. Keller - Takoma Park MD
International Classification:
B62K 1500
US Classification:
2803041
Abstract:
A pair of upwardly projecting, readily displaceable, push-up handles which are selectively mountable on the lateral bars of a wheelchair framework. The handle mounting means for each side includes a tubular member that is fixed between the upper and lower rigid frame members of the wheelchair via a pair of dual U-ring interconnecting bracket means which secures the first tubular member to the frame members in a variable inclined position mode. A second tubular member of an outer diameter somewhat reduced and is adapted at its one longitudinal end to engage telescopically the open upper longitudinal end of the first member. At the upper longitudinal end of the second member is optionally located, a replaceable resilient gripping means. The second tubular member is retained within the first member by a tensioned cord means located inwardly and longitudinally of the conjoined members, which cord is sized to require elongation sufficiently to bias the engaged members into a secure interconnecting relation while serving as a set of push-up bars for the seated invalid. The cord-induced tube engagement bias can be readily overcome by manual effort to be displaced from the telescopic connection and to hang freely along the wheelchair lateral framework.
