Method For Configuring Software For A Build To Order System

US Patent:
6928644, Aug 9, 2005
Filed:
Jan 4, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/754739
Inventors:
James L. Kroening - Dakota Dunes SD, US
Darrin J. Fangman - McCook SD, US
James Marshall - Jefferson SD, US
Richard Peasley - Elk Point SD, US
Assignee:
Gateway Inc. - Irvine CA
International Classification:
G06F009/445
G06F009/44
US Classification:
717175, 717121
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method of building a custom software configuration, which may include receiving a first customer order for a first information handling system and a second customer order for a second information handling system. The first customer order including a first list of hardware configuration components and a first list of software configuration components and the second customer order including second list of hardware configuration components and a second list of software configuration components. At least one of the first list of hardware configuration components is different from the second list of hardware configuration components and the first list of software configuration components is different from the second list of software configuration components. At least one software configuration is stored on a removable medium, the at least one software configuration suitable for loading at least one of the first list of software configuration components and the second list of software configuration components onto at least one of the first information handling system and the second information handling system.

System Method Apparatus And Software For Minimizing Unintended Cursor Movement

US Patent:
7194702, Mar 20, 2007
Filed:
Jun 29, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/343143
Inventors:
Richard A. Peasley - Elk Point SD, US
Assignee:
Gateway Inc. - Irvine CA
International Classification:
G06F 3/00
US Classification:
715856, 715863, 715857, 715764, 715858, 345156, 345157
Abstract:
A system for minimizing unintended cursor movement in computer display systems, using GUI operating systems or software, that can result from such things as muscle spasms, or rough travel is disclosed. A cursor control device, such as a mouse, is monitored for signals of movement. Once a signal of movement has been received, the signal is then evaluated. This evaluation involves determining whether the signal for movement is ancillary to an intended movement or it is an intended movement. If the signal for movement is determined to be ancillary, it is then corrected. If the signal for movement is an intended movement, the signal is then passed on to the operating system for processing. The correcting can be done in the analog domain by utilizing a filter of some form, such as a bandpass filter, or it can be done in the digital domain by masking out undesired portions of the signals of movement and retaining only the portions of the signal that facilitate movement along an intended path.

Restricted Orientation Shipping Carton

US Patent:
6092659, Jul 25, 2000
Filed:
Mar 11, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/038295
Inventors:
Richard A. Peasley - Elk Point SD
Roger D. Schlapia - North Sioux City SD
Paul R. Kayl - McCook Lake SD
Matthew R. Merk - Sioux City IA
Assignee:
Gateway 2000, Inc. - North Sioux City SD
International Classification:
B65D 21036
B65D 8500
B65D 8530
US Classification:
206508
Abstract:
A shipping container which inhibits improper orientation by its shape and also provides protection for its contents. The container has a number of side panels, a top end and a bottom end. A top closure covers the top end and a bottom closure covers the bottom end. The top closure projects above the top end to a preselected height and by it shape inhibits placing the container on the top closure. The bottom closure is recessed within the container to a depth at least as deep as the height of the top closure so that a plurality of containers may be nested together. The container may also include a crush resistant structure as an integral part of the top closure or a separate insert. The structure has outer walls and inner load-bearing walls which inhibit the structure from collapsing when a compressive force is applied.

System And Method Of Creating And Delivering Software

US Patent:
6080207, Jun 27, 2000
Filed:
Jun 4, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/090118
Inventors:
James L. Kroening - Dakota Dunes SD
Darrin J. Fangman - McCook SD

Assignee:
Gateway 2000, Inc. - North Sioux City SD
International Classification:
G06F 9445
US Classification:
717 11
Abstract:
A computerized system and a method for generating a custom software configuration for a hard drive of a computer system according to desired software configuration defined by a purchasing customer. The computerized system and method utilizes an image builder for creating a disk image of the desired software configuration and transferring the image to a storage device. The storage device is connected to an image server that transfers the disk image directly to the hard drive during a manufacturing and assembly process of the computer system. Once the computer system is assembled, the image server broadcasts the disk image to the computer system via a wired or wireless connection.
