Method And Apparatus For Automatically Uninstalling Software On A Network

US Patent:
6981252, Dec 27, 2005
Filed:
Apr 12, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/834703
Inventors:
Richard Sadowsky - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Symantec Corporation - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
G06F009/45
US Classification:
717176
Abstract:
The present invention is for an apparatus, method and computer readable software medium executable by a processor for automatically installing software applications resident on a plurality of computer terminals in a network. The invention preferably includes a detection module, a generation module, and a transmission module operating on a computer attached to a network. The detection module identifies the executable steps which are required to uninstall a software application from the model computer. The generation module creates a self-executing uninstall package using the executable steps identified by the detection module. The transmission module transmits the self-executing uninstall package to each of the terminals in the network containing the software application which is to be uninstalled. Upon arriving at a terminal, the self-executing uninstall package automatically executes and removes the software application from the terminal.

Mental State Analysis Using Web Services

US Patent:
2011030, Dec 8, 2011
Filed:
Jun 6, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/153745
Inventors:
Richard Scott Sadowsky - Sturbridge MA, US
Rana el Kaliouby - Newton MA, US
Rosalind Wright Picard - Newtonville MA, US
Oliver Orion Wilder-Smith - Holliston MA, US
Panu James Turcot - Cambridge MA, US
Zhihong Zheng - Zheng MA, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/00
US Classification:
600300
Abstract:
Analysis of mental states is provided using web services to enable data analysis. Data is captured for an individual where the data includes facial information and physiological information. Analysis is performed on a web service and the analysis is received. The mental states of other people may be correlated to the mental state for the individual. Other sources of information may be aggregated where the information may be used to analyze the mental state of the individual. Analysis of the mental state of the individual or group of individuals is rendered for display.

Measuring Affective Data For Web-Enabled Applications

US Patent:
2012008, Apr 5, 2012
Filed:
Sep 30, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/249317
Inventors:
Rana el Kaliouby - Newton MA, US
Rosalind Wright Picard - Newtonville MA, US
Richard Scott Sadowsky - Sturbridge MA, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/0205
G09B 19/00
US Classification:
600301, 434236
Abstract:
Mental state information is collected as a person interacts with a rendering such as a website or video. The mental state information is collected through video capture or capture of sensor information. The sensor information can be of electrodermal activity, accelerometer readings, skin temperature, or other characteristics. The mental state information is uploaded to a server and aggregated with other people's information so that collective mental states are associated with the rendering. The aggregated mental state information is displayed through a visual representation such as an avatar.

Sharing Affect Across A Social Network

US Patent:
2012012, May 17, 2012
Filed:
Nov 16, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/297342
Inventors:
Rana el Kaliouby - Newton MA, US
Richard Scott Sadowsky - Sturbridge MA, US
Oliver Orion Wilder-Smith - Holliston MA, US
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709202
Abstract:
Mental state information is collected from an individual through video capture or capture of sensor information. The sensor information can be of electrodermal activity, accelerometer readings, skin temperature, or other characteristics. The mental state information may be collected over a period of time and analyzed to determine a mood of the individual. An individual may share their mental state information across a social network. The individual may be asked to elect whether to share their mental state information before it is shared.

Using Affect Within A Gaming Context

US Patent:
2012013, May 31, 2012
Filed:
Feb 6, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/366648
Inventors:
Daniel Bender - Cambridge MA, US
Rana el Kaliouby - Newton MA, US
Rosalind Wright Picard - Newtonville MA, US
Richard Scott Sadowsky - Sturbridge MA, US
Panu James Turcot - Cambridge MA, US
Oliver Orion Wilder-Smith - Holliston MA, US
International Classification:
A63F 9/24
US Classification:
463 36
Abstract:
Mental state data is collected as a person interacts with a game machine. Analysis is performed on this data and mental state information and affect are shared across a social network. The affect of a person can be represented to the social network or gaming community in the form of an avatar. Recommendations can be based on the affect of the person. Mental states can be analyzed by web services which may, in turn, modify the game.

Visualization Of Affect Responses To Videos

US Patent:
2012022, Aug 30, 2012
Filed:
Feb 27, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/405842
Inventors:
Richard Scott Sadowsky - Sturbridge MA, US
Rana el Kaliouby - Waltham MA, US
Rosalind Wright Picard - Newtonville MA, US
Oliver Orion Wilder-Smith - Holliston MA, US
International Classification:
H04N 21/258
US Classification:
725 10
Abstract:
Analysis of mental states is provided to enable data analysis pertaining to videos. A video is embedded within a web-enabled interface which enables collecting mental state data. This web-enabled interface is then distributed and information on mental states is collected. Data is captured from viewers of the video where the data includes facial information and/or physiological data. Facial and physiological information may be gathered for a group of viewers.
