Education

Skills

From the moment of entry to the CLS program all lectures were given with hands-on assignments • as well. This included manual differentials of RBCs • WBCs • and Platelets along with calculation methods of RBC indices. Also included was morphology examination • and staining techniques involved with malignant conditions. This would sometimes require me to choose the anticoagulant to use and draw the patient's blood. I have hands on with PCR and a good understanding of the process taking place. Also can perform and understand FISH • EIAs (both competitive and non-competitive) • fluorescent antibody "tags" • and other procedures involving molecular aspects of the laboratory. Have performed Clotting studies such as APPT • PT • and fibrinogen. As-well • I have utilized .5 molar urea to confirm issues with factor XIII. I have performed donor to patient cross-matching • Direct and indirect antibody testing • weak-d • utilized enzymes to both suppress and enhance different antigens • manually forward and reverse typed specimens and used gel • plus other procedures involved with transfusion. I have manually examined semen • and have worked with urine • too. The urines involved both dipping strips and microscopic examination. I have had to culture and sub-culture specimens both aerobic and anaerobically using the proper growth medium and perform susceptibility tests. Performance of proper staining techniques was a must whether it was a simple gram stain • partial acid-fast or acid-fast • trichrome • or iodine. Temperature was another important factor in micro- and mycology. I've also had to identify amoebas • hemoflagellates • and other parasitic organisms. I have hands-on with chemistry analysis • too. A lot of experience with hormones to determine if the condition is primary • secondary • or tertiary. Other chemistry I have performed Bilirubin tests • titrations • spectrophotometry • Lipid profiles • electrophoresis • ANAs • triple and quad panels to determine birth defects • and many others that involve similar techniques or procedures to ones I've already named. I am also ASCP certified as a CLS Generalist. My certification number is 248686.
