Bachelor of the Arts, Business Education/Computer Information System, SpanishMy favorite thing about SUU was the fact that it was primarily a business school that focused on entrepreneurship. I got my start in entrepreneurial Web development there working as a private consultant for the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery photographing and posting various shows on the Web. That endeavor later led to my teaching Continuing Education courses...as an undergraduate...and obtaining a job at a local online insurance quoting startup. SUU also has a Tony Award-winning Shakespearean festival every summer and I took full advantage of that by attending as many plays as I could.

Serving the people of Western Guatemala was an unforgettable highlight of my life.
After serving in the Guatemala, Quetzaltenango mission, I became its online alumni community manager, beginning a new phase of my career in social media...before it was called social media.
Utah State University 1992 - 1993
Transferred to SUU, Computer Science, minor in Space SciencesI was accepted to USU on a tuition scholarship as one of four students selected statewide by the Rocky Mountain Space Grant Consortium, which had pioneered the Get-Away Special experiment canisters that flew on the Space Shuttle.
An artificial heart experiment I had helped initiate flew on STS-95, the same shuttle mission as John Glenn when he returned to space. See http://www.transonic.com/hearts_in_space.shtml
I also enjoyed two semesters playing in the university jazz band.
USU was a great learning experience for me in that it helped me discover that what I had dreamed of always doing with my life wasn't necessarily the best thing I could be doing with my talents.
Kanab High School 1989 - 1992
I grew up and went to high school in the most beautiful area of Earth ever created. Growing up in a small town presents its own set of challenges that forces you to think like an entrepreneur or a consultant.
From my freshman year onward, my knowledge of computer technology put me on a fast track to a consulting career. If there had been coverage in this sleepy town, I should have had a pager for all the times I was called out of class to assist with something technology-related. After graduation, I helped install the first computer network the local elementary school ever had.
