High Speed Lightning Regulator Circuit With Self Test Attributes

US Patent:
7558036, Jul 7, 2009
Filed:
Aug 23, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/508415
Inventors:
Robert W. Wardzala - Belvidere IL, US
Assignee:
Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation - Rockford IL
International Classification:
H02H 9/04
H02H 9/02
US Classification:
361 911, 361100, 361101
Abstract:
A system for regulating high speed voltage surges, particularly as a result of lightning strikes, which includes a transistor, an isolated voltage provider, and an array of voltage regulating electrical components, where the isolated voltage provider maintains the transistor in a fully on mode unless a voltage surge occurs. In the case of a voltage surge the array of voltage regulating electrical components switches the transistor to linear mode thus providing protection equal to its rating. A method of determining the voltage rating of individual Zener diodes contained within a Zener diode array consisting of shorting out individual diodes from the array and measuring the total voltage rating, then comparing the total voltage rating of the array with no diodes shorted out to the voltage rating of the array with the one diode shorted out.

Driveway And Landscape Light With Survivability And Durability Attributes

US Patent:
2005000, Jan 6, 2005
Filed:
May 11, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/842931
Inventors:
Robert Wardzala - Belvidere IL, US
International Classification:
F21S008/00
US Classification:
362145000
Abstract:
An illumination device comprised of a plurality of discrete light sources (), a durable housing body (), a flexible mechanism () that provides for survivability due to impact and return to normal position, a support () for easy installation, and wiring () that permits any number of these units to be easily connected and operated in parallel. A first embodiment utilizes a stake and spring for fixing the unit into the ground. A second embodiment utilizes a breakaway coupling that permits easy replacement of the housing body () on the support () after accidental upset. Further embodiments can utilize or incorporate infrared emitting diodes as part of monitoring, detection, and other security systems. In all embodiments, the diodes may be arranged for uniform coverage or sector coverage depending on the type of application such as for driveway, walkway, or landscape illumination. Low power consumption and long life are additional features.

Tone Generating Circuit

US Patent:
5754095, May 19, 1998
Filed:
Oct 11, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/540848
Inventors:
Joseph F. Bader - Crete IL
Robert W. Wardzala - Downers Grove IL
Assignee:
Federal Signal Corporation - University Park IL
International Classification:
G10K 912
US Classification:
3403847
Abstract:
A tone generating circuit for delivering power to a speaker modulated fourth harmonic audio square wave signal by its fundamental to produce a modulated audio signal within a selected frequency range. The tone generating circuit may be incorporated in a power delivering circuit that supplies a pulse width modulated audio signal to a speaker in one mode of operation, a fourth harmonic modulated audio signal in a second mode of operation, and a square wave audio signal in a third mode of operation.
