Inventors:
Robert T Grisamore - Austin TX
Assignee:
Sigmatel, Inc. - Austin TX
International Classification:
G06F 750
US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for generating a fast multiply accumulation circuit includes processing that begins by determining number of current partial products for a multiplication of a first multiplicand and a second multiplicand. The processing then continues by determining size of the current partial products. The processing then continues by identifying one of a plurality of reduction patterns based on the size of the current partial products. The processing then continues by determining number of, and configuration of, full adders and half adders required for a reduction function of the current partial products based on the one of the plurality of reduction patterns and the size of the current partial products, wherein the multiply-accumulator performs the reduction function.

Janet L. Yun - Santa Clara CA, US
Allan Liu - Oakland CA, US
Marty Lynn Pflum - Austin TX, US
Robert Thomas Grisamore - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
Avago Technologies Fiber IP (Singapore) Pte Ltd - Singapore
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709237, 709250, 375220
Abstract:
Handshaking is performed between a first host system and a second host system. First handshaking is performed between a host module within the first host system and a first transceiver within the first host system. The first handshaking includes passing from the first transceiver to the host module dummy information about the second host system. Second handshaking is performed between a second transceiver within the second host system and the first transceiver. The second handshaking includes obtaining, by the first transceiver from the second transceiver, first information about the second host system. Handshaking between the host module and the first transceiver is restarted. This includes passing from the first transceiver to the host module the first information about the second host system. The first information replaces the dummy information passed from the first transceiver to the host module during the first handshaking.

Low Energy Transfer Mode For Auxiliary Power Supply Operation In A Cascaded Switching Power Converter

US Patent:

Filed:
Jun 30, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/495720
Inventors:
John L. Melanson - Austin TX, US
Mauro L. Gaetano - Austin TX, US
Eric King - Dripping Springs TX, US
Robert Grisamore - Austin TX, US
Zhaohui He - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
Cirrus Logic, Inc. - Austin TX
International Classification:
H05B 41/36
H02M 3/335
US Classification:
315247, 363 16
Abstract:
A cascaded power converter having an auxiliary power supply operated from the second switching power stage provides efficient operation by activating the auxiliary power supply early in the startup process. A low energy transfer operating mode is initiated in the second switching power stage to charge the auxiliary power supply output without generating significant disruption at the load. After the first switching power stage is started and the intermediate node voltage has increased to a level sufficient to operate the second switching power stage, the final switching power stage enters a normal operating mode. The low energy transfer operating mode has a substantially reduced switching rate and pulse width from that of the normal operating mode.

Abstract:
In at least one embodiment, a lamp includes a controller configured to generate power control signals for a lamp is also configured to receive lamp calibration data received via one or more power terminals of the lamp. The controller is configured to process the calibration data to calibrate the lamp. In at least one embodiment, the lamp includes one or more light emitting diodes.

Dimmer Detection

US Patent:
8536799, Sep 17, 2013
Filed:
Mar 31, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/077483
Inventors:
Robert T. Grisamore - Austin TX, US
Firas S. Azrai - Austin TX, US
Mohit Sood - Austin TX, US
John L. Melanson - Austin TX, US
Eric J. King - Dripping Springs TX, US
Jean-Charles Pina - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
Cirrus Logic, Inc. - Austin TX
International Classification:
H05B 37/02
US Classification:
315294, 315185 R, 315200 R, 315291
Abstract:
In at least one embodiment, a lighting system receives an input signal, such as a supply voltage, that can be affected by a dimmer. The supply voltage can be affected by a dimmer when, for example, a dimmer phase cut (i. e. chopped) the supply voltage. A dimmer detection system of the lighting system determines if a dimmer is affecting the supply voltage. In at least one embodiment, the dimmer detection system also determines a type of the dimmer, such as detecting if the dimmer is a leading edge or trailing edge dimmer. In at least one embodiment, the dimmer detection system provides dimmer type data to one or more other circuits such as a switching power converter controller. The one or more other circuits utilize the dimmer type data to affect their operation.

Phase Control Dimming Compatible Lighting Systems

US Patent:
2011007, Mar 31, 2011
Filed:
Sep 30, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/570550
Inventors:
William A. Draper - Austin TX, US
Robert Grisamore - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
H05B 41/36
US Classification:
315224
Abstract:
A power control/lighting system includes a controller to provide compatibility between a lamp ballast configured to receive a dedicated dimmer signal and a phase control dimmer. In at least one embodiment, the controller converts a phase control dimming signal into dimming information useable by a lamp ballast of a gas discharge lamp based lighting system. Additionally, in at least one embodiment, the controller also controls power factor correction of the power control/lighting system. In at least one embodiment, the controller provides dimming information based on the phase control dimming signal that allows the lamp ballast to be used in conjunction with a phase control dimmer.

Controller Customization System With Phase Cut Angle Communication Customization Data Encoding

US Patent:
2012027, Nov 1, 2012

Abstract:
A controller is configured to generate one or more power control signals for a lamp to supply power to the lamp from a supply voltage. The controller is further configured to receive customization data encoded in the supply voltage. Thus, in at least one embodiment, the controller receives the customization data via one or more power terminals of the lamp. Phase cut angles in the supply voltage provided to the controller encode the customization data, and each phase cut angle encodes N symbols of data. N is an integer greater than or equal to one (1). In at least one embodiment, the customization data alters the controller from one state to another state in accordance with data represented by phase cuts in the supply voltage that encode the customization data. Examples of customization data include calibration data and configuration data.
