Identifying Temporal Ambiguity In A Aggregated Log Stream

US Patent:
7380173, May 27, 2008
Filed:
Aug 3, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/910016
Inventors:
Rodney Hugh Brown - Cary NC, US
Tushar Dasharath Fadale - Raleigh NC, US
Thomas James Fox - Apex NC, US
Richard Edwin Harper - Chapel Hill NC, US
David Bryan Roberts - Cary NC, US
Ketan K. Shah - Cary NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 11/00
US Classification:
714 39, 714 4, 714 20
Abstract:
A method and system for ordering and aggregating log streams. Log streams for events from different sources are received. If different sources have different recording cycles, or time epochs, that lead to different temporal granularities, then all of the log streams are combined into a single time epoch that is equal to the longest time epoch. Log streams from sources having shorter time epochs continue to retain information about their original time epochs, in order to retain information about the order of the events in those log streams. The log streams are re-ordered, both before and after being integrated into the aggregate log, by acquiring additional data from the different sources, thus permitting the likely cause/effect relationship between events.

Method, Apparatus And Program Product For Server Mangement

US Patent:
2004010, May 27, 2004
Filed:
Nov 27, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/306304
Inventors:
Rodney Brown - Cary NC, US
Gregory Dake - Durham NC, US
Jeffery Franke - Apex NC, US
Donald Johnson - Apex NC, US
Edward Klodnicki - Durham NC, US
Carl Morrell - Cary NC, US
Chetan Patel - Cary NC, US
Michael Rollins - Durham NC, US
William Schwartz - Apex NC, US
David Woodham - Raleigh NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F015/173
US Classification:
709/223000
Abstract:
Signals to a management module are generated on an occurrence of an event affecting one of a plurality of server blades housed in a common chassis with the management module and aggregated in the management module. Signaling in accordance with this invention may be originated at a number of levels of operation of information handling systems, and distinction can be drawn between an occurrence requiring prompt attention from an operator—an alert—and occurrences where such prompt action is unnecessary. Occurrences signaled are logged for possible later review, and such a log will, in the contemplation of this invention, contain events related to a number of server blades.

Signature Based Distributed Inventory Caching

US Patent:
2019023, Aug 1, 2019
Filed:
Mar 20, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/359656
Inventors:
- New Tech Park, SG
Rodney H. Brown - Cary NC, US
Qiao Neng Qian - Shanghai, CN
International Classification:
H04L 29/08
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, system and computer program product for signature based distributed inventory caching. In an embodiment of the invention, a for signature based distributed inventory caching includes polling from a centralized management solution an endpoint aggregating state information for different monitored resources, and receiving in response to the polling a signature for one or more of the monitored resources aggregated by the endpoint. The method also includes comparing the received signature to a signature stored in the solution in connection with the endpoint. In response to a determination that the compared signatures differ, the method includes updating a cache in the solution with state information for the endpoint, computing a new signature for the state information, and replacing the stored signature with the new signature. Otherwise the method includes bypassing any updating of the cache.
