Reclosable Container With Resealable Flexible Cover And Method For Manufacturing The Same

US Patent:
2010017, Jul 8, 2010
Filed:
Jan 6, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/348980
Inventors:
Thomas Andersson - Helsingborg, SE
Edward J. Cigallio - Douglasville GA, US
Anthony J. Alvarez - Atlanta GA, US
Ronald W. Komro - Smyrna GA, US
Assignee:
PRINTPACK ILLINOIS, INC. - Elgin IL
International Classification:
B65D 33/00
US Classification:
383211
Abstract:
A reclosable container with a resealable, flexible cover portion that is easy to use and a method of manufacturing the same. The reclosable container comprises a container body having a storage space and an opening providing access to the storage space. The container body includes a base portion and a resealable cover portion having an inner layer, an outer layer, and a pressure-sensitive adhesive affixing the inner layer to the outer layer. The inner layer of the resealable cover portion is heat sealed to the base portion about the opening thereby forming a heat-sealed region where the inner layer contacts and is heat sealed to the base portion. The inner layer of the resealable cover portion has a cut inside the heat-sealed region such that when the resealable cover portion is pulled apart from the base portion, the inner layer, the outer layer, and the pressure-sensitive adhesive are together lifted away from the opening, but the inner layer remains attached to the base portion in and adjacent to the heat-sealed region such that the pressure-sensitive adhesive contacting the inner layer in and adjacent to the heat-sealed region is exposed.

Package Having A Resealable Pour Spout

US Patent:
2012016, Jun 28, 2012
Filed:
Dec 27, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/978793
Inventors:
Ronald Komro - Smyrna GA, US
Nathan Franklin - Atlanta GA, US
Edward J. Cigallio - Douglasville GA, US
Assignee:
PRINTPACK ILLINOIS, INC. - Elgin IL
International Classification:
B65D 30/20
B31B 1/14
US Classification:
383120, 493 56
Abstract:
A package formed of a package material comprising a heat-sealable inner layer, an outer layer, and a pressure-sensitive adhesive disposed between the inner layer and the outer layer. The package may include a gusset with a center fold that divides the gusset into a first folded portion and a second folded portion. The package may further include a transverse heat-seal region extending across the gusset whereby the first folded portion is sealed to itself by mating surfaces of the heat-sealable inner layer and the second folded portion is sealed to itself by mating surfaces of the heat-sealable inner layer. The package may also include a patterned die cut formed in the heat-sealable inner layer, wherein at least a portion of the patterned die cut is adjacent to the transverse heat-seal region of the gusset so as to allow a portion of the inner layer to delaminate and expose a portion of the pressure-sensitive adhesive when the center fold is unfolded and the resealable pour spout is opened.
