Method And Printing System For Implementing Jet Detection

US Patent:
8371674, Feb 12, 2013
Filed:
Sep 8, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/877727
Inventors:
Russell James Powers - Fairport NY, US
Bryon Reo Young - Pittsford NY, US
Alicia Schwenk Mruthyunjaya - Penfield NY, US
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Norwalk CT
International Classification:
B41J 29/393
US Classification:
347 19
Abstract:
Disclosed is a user interface associated with a printing system and a method of using the user interface to select a profile for jet detection. The printing system has a plurality of jets for outputting test images and document images and a jet detection device with at least one or more sensors for reading the output test images to detect faulty jets. The user interface provides a plurality of profiles for the jet detection device for selection. Each profile has a plurality of predetermined conditions that cause a test image to be printed at a particular location and analyzed. For example, a profile can include a time and a location for printing output test images using one or more of the plurality of jets. Thus, a user can control the conditions for outputting test images and determining missing or faulty jets within the system.

Filed:
Jul 22, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/841616
Inventors:
Douglas F. SUNDQUIST - Webster NY, US
Russell James Powers - Fairport NY, US
Assignee:
XEROX CORPORATION - Norwalk CT
International Classification:
G06Q 10/00
G06F 17/30
H04L 9/00
US Classification:
705302, 713189, 707803, 707E1701, 707E17044
Abstract:
According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided methods and systems for handling warranty services in a printing environment through use of an automatic process that writes all necessary warranty claim data into a log that be sent to a warranty service provider for print head replacement. The invention, in one embodiment, avoids the additional costs and time for sending a print head to the warranty service provider, and minimizes any administration efforts of the warranty service provider. The invention reduces print head warranty process validation time and makes the process more robust by tracking initial install date, current system date, and usage of the print head to ensure the print head has been used and maintained properly during the warranty period. The warranty data is stored in an encrypted field so that it cannot be changed. Further, the warranty service provider and authorized users can request a warranty claim receipt without the need to remove or idle the print head.

Method And System For Improved Ink Jet Or Printhead Replacement

US Patent:
2012010, May 3, 2012
Filed:
Nov 2, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/917543
Inventors:
Russell James Powers - Fairport NY, US
Jan Enderle - Rochester NY, US
Jeffrey J. Folkins - Rochester NY, US
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Norwalk CT
International Classification:
B41J 29/38
US Classification:
347 14
Abstract:
A system and method is provided for compensating for a faulty ink jet in a target printhead in an ink jet imaging system having a plurality of printheads arranged to span a maximum printing width that includes defining a typical printing width less than the maximum printing width and swapping the target printhead with a printhead situated in the margin outside the typical printing width. The system and method permits swapping the target printhead with a margin printhead that has a faulty ink jet provided that the location of the faulty ink jet in the margin printhead does not coincide or align with a faulty ink jet in printheads adjacent the target printhead.
