Reconfigurable Variable Blank-Holder Force System And Method For Sheet Metal Stamping

US Patent:
7257460, Aug 14, 2007
Filed:
Jul 27, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/190359
Inventors:
Ravinder Venugopal - Montréal, Quebec, CA
Sameer Anand Joshi - Norristown PA, US
Ananthakrishnan Surianarayanan - Lansdale PA, US
International Classification:
B21D 22/21
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
700146, 72351
Abstract:
A reconfigurable variable blank-holder force system (and method) for producing sheet metal stampings comprises a portable hydraulic unit, controlled by a digital control system and a knowledge-based expert system to enable reconfigurability and an easy transition from the try-out stage to production. The knowledge-base has a hierarchical structure and includes stored information about part geometry, material properties and press parameters. The expert system enables an operator to determine optimal blank-holder forces, and to fine-tune through a graphical interface unit. The optimal blank-holder forces are generated by hydraulic force actuators, using a controller running a nonlinear algorithm that accounts for valve nonlinearities, variable flow-rate and numbers of operational cylinders. The portable hydraulic unit preferably comprises hydraulic cylinders with quick disconnect hoses, a manifold, servo-valves and a pump unit. A structured method to utilize this system to produce sheet metal stampings is also described.

Adaptive Control Of Externally Controlled Fan Drive

US Patent:
7407046, Aug 5, 2008
Filed:
Sep 26, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/235428
Inventors:
Nikhil D. Bhat - Farmington Hills MI, US
Masato Yamada - Westbloomfield MI, US
Sameer A. Joshi - Norristown PA, US
Ananthakrishnan Surianarayanan - Lansdale PA, US
Assignee:
USUI International Corp. - Plymouth MI
International Classification:
F16D 35/02
US Classification:
192 5861, 701 68
Abstract:
An externally controlled fan drive includes a fluid clutch that alters torque delivered to a fan housing to rotate the fan housing at a target fan speed. An adaptive controller measures the actual fan speed and adaptively updates the control logic to compensate for variable physical characteristics of the fan device.

Method For Estimating Clutch Engagement Parameters In A Strategy For Clutch Management In A Vehicle Powertrain

US Patent:
7603219, Oct 13, 2009
Filed:
Feb 22, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/070942
Inventors:
Sameer A. Joshi - Norristown PA, US
Ananthakrishnan Surianarayanan - Lansdale PA, US
Chia-Hsiang Liu - Northville MI, US
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
G06F 7/00
B60W 10/02
US Classification:
701 68, 192 351
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for computing clutch engagement characteristics of a friction clutch system in a vehicle powertrain. A dynamic model of the system is used under conditions that cause clutch slipping. Algebraic equations defining a functional relationship between clutch torque and an engagement angle have characteristic parameters that are estimated using a non-linear least squares technique. The non-linear least squares technique repetitively minimizes the difference between a measured clutch output speed and a clutch output speed from the system dynamic model for the same inputs until a small insignificant error is reached. Parameter estimates are used to update each engagement characteristic.

Method For Estimating Clutch Engagement Parameters In A Strategy For Clutch Management In A Vehicle Powertrain

US Patent:
2007029, Dec 20, 2007
Filed:
Jun 20, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/471267
Inventors:
Sameer A. Joshi - Norristown PA, US
Ananthakrishnan Surianarayanan - Lansdale PA, US
Chia-Hsiang Liu - Northville MI, US
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
G06F 17/00
US Classification:
701 67, 477166
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for estimating clutch engagement characteristics of a friction clutch system in a vehicle powertrain. A dynamic model of the system is used under conditions that cause clutch slipping. Algebraic equations defining a functional relationship between clutch torque and an engagement angle have characteristic parameters that are estimated using a non-linear least squares technique. A non-linear least squares technique iteratively minimizes the difference between a measured output clutch disk speed and an output clutch disk speed from the system dynamic model for the same inputs until a small insignificant error is reached. Parameter estimates are used to compile an estimated clutch engagement characteristic.

Database Interface And Management System

US Patent:
2017016, Jun 8, 2017
Filed:
Dec 2, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/368009
Inventors:
- Baltimore MD, US
Sameer Joshi - Baltimore MD, US
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
Abstract:
A method of querying a database includes: receiving, from a user device, a user query formatted in accordance with a target construct, the target construct having one of an ontological construct or a schematic construct; translating the user query into a source query formatted in accordance with a source construct, the source construct having the other of the ontological construct or the schematic construct; querying, using a programmable processor, a database using the source query and obtain source results from the database, the database and the source results formatted in accordance with the source construct; transforming the source results into target results formatted in accordance with the target construct; and returning, to the user device, the target results.

Generating A Design For A Dental Restorative Product From Dental Images

US Patent:
2016037, Dec 29, 2016
Filed:
Jun 24, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/749294
Inventors:
- Hatfield PA, US
Sameer Anand Joshi - North Wales PA, US
International Classification:
A61C 13/00
A61B 6/03
A61C 13/08
A61B 8/08
A61C 9/00
A61C 5/10
A61B 6/14
A61B 5/055
Abstract:
Technology is described for generating a design for a dental restorative product from one or more dental images of a patient. The method can include obtaining a three-dimensional (3D) image of dentition of the patient prior to a change in dentition of the patient; and then determining the change in dentition of the patient. A design of a dental restorative product can be automatically generated for at least one tooth of the patient based on the 3D image of dentition prior to the change in dentition. Various other computer-implemented methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

The shift controller is capable of placing the tandem axle assembly in at least a first operating condition and a second operating condition using the actuator. In response to the sensor and an operating condition of at least one of the power source and the transmission of the vehicle, the shift controller adjusts a manner of placing the tandem axle assembly in at least one of the first operating condition and the second operating condition. The hierarchical control system facilitates performing a shifting procedure in an automatic manner or as desired by an operator of the vehicle without excessively increasing a cost and a complexity of the tandem axle assembly.
