Disposable Absorbent Article With Containment Structure

US Patent:
6602234, Aug 5, 2003
Filed:
Feb 11, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/502323
Inventors:
Walter V. Klemp - Houston TX
Paul M. Ducker - Vancouver WA
Scott W. Sneed - Friendswood TX
Assignee:
Associated Hygienic Products LLC - Duluth GA
International Classification:
A61F 1320
US Classification:
60438501, 604385101
Abstract:
A disposable absorbent article defined by a pair of longitudinally extending side edges and a pair of end edges extending between the side edges, has a front waist region, a back waist region, and a crotch region located between the waist regions. The disposable absorbent article also includes a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet. The topsheet is provided with a plurality of openings which direct bodily exudates received into or by the crotch region to a storage space disposed below the topsheet. The topsheet is spaced generally upward from the core such that the storage space is disposed between the topsheet and the core. The disposable absorbent article further includes at least one or more elongated elastic strands which are attached to the topsheet so as to space or urge the topsheet generally upwardly from the core. Moreover, portions of the topsheet between the elastic strands are tacked down to create depressions between the strands and each of the openings are located generally in one of these depressions.

Disposable Absorbent Article Employing An Absorbent Composite And Method Of Making The Same

US Patent:
6794557, Sep 21, 2004
Filed:
Jul 14, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/615978
Inventors:
Walter V. Klemp - Houston TX
Paul M. Ducker - St. Simons GA
Scott W. Sneed - Decatur GA
Migaku Suzuki - Kanagawa, JP
Assignee:
Associated Hygienic Products LLC
International Classification:
A61F 1315
US Classification:
604378, 604368, 604379, 604380, 60438528, 604385101, 442 84
Abstract:
A disposable absorbent article includes a topsheet, a backsheet and an absorbent core disposed therebetween. One or more of the backsheet, topsheet, and absorbent core is constructed of an absorbent composite that includes an absorbent layer of hydratable fine fibers in the form of microfibril obtained from cellulose or a derivative thereof and super absorbent polymer (SAP) particles bonded together by the hydratable fibers, and a nonwoven substrate supporting the absorbent layer such as SMS. The absorbent layer is coated over the surface of the nonwoven substrate. The core may include one uniform layer of the absorbent composite or a composite having one layer of the nonwoven substrate and a plurality of segmented absorbent layers applied thereon. In the latter design, the absorbent layers are spaced apart from one another to expose surface sections of the substrate. These non-coated surface sections provide wicking zones which allow room for the absorbent layers to expand and prevent gel blocking.

Disposable Absorbent Article With Containment Structure

US Patent:
7172582, Feb 6, 2007
Filed:
Jun 29, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/879597
Inventors:
Walter V. Klemp - Houston TX, US
Paul M. Ducker - Vancouver WA, US
Daniel D. Gardner - Houston TX, US
Scott W. Sneed - Decatur GA, US
Assignee:
Associated Hygienic Products LLC - Duluth GA
International Classification:
A61F 13/15
A61F 13/20
US Classification:
604385101, 60438524
Abstract:
A disposable absorbent article partially defined by a pair of longitudinally extending side edges and a pair of end edges extending between the side edges, includes a topsheet layer, a backsheet layer, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet. The disposable absorbent article also has a pair of side wall structures each having a pair of oppositely positioned end portions. A first side wall structure extends generally longitudinally between the core and one of the side edges and the other side wall structure extends generally longitudinally between the core and the other side edge. Further, an end strip constructed from an elastic material is positioned substantially adjacent each one of the end edges, and extends laterally between the side edges. Each of the end strips includes a fixed elastic end section disposed adjacent the end edge and secured to the topsheet, a fixed intermediate section positioned longitudinally inward of the fixed end section, and a movable, elastic inward section positioned longitudinally inward of the intermediate section. The fixed elastic section forms a waistband portion each of the front and back waist regions of the article.
