Actuator Mounting Assemblies, Actuator Assemblies, And Methods Of Adjusting An Actuator

US Patent:
2010018, Jul 22, 2010
Filed:
Jan 16, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/355347
Inventors:
David A. Payne - Phoenix AZ, US
Jim Kern - Chandler AZ, US
Stephen Birn - Long Beach CA, US
Assignee:
HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
B23P 19/00
B23P 19/10
US Classification:
29709, 29702, 29464, 29559
Abstract:
An actuator mounting assembly includes a cap, a rod, a spring mechanism, and a switch assembly. The cap is adapted to couple to an actuator. The rod extends through the cap and includes a first end adapted to extend through the actuator and a second end adapted to attach to a fixed location. The spring mechanism is disposed in the cap cavity, is compressible, and has a predetermined preload. The switch assembly is disposed in the cap and adapted to sense relative positioning between the rod and the cap and to provide signals based on the sensed relative positioning. When the rod and the cap are in a first relative position, the switch assembly provides a first signal to the actuator to allow the cap to move axially relative to the rod, but when in a second relative position, the switch assembly discontinues providing the first signal to the actuator.

Vafn Systems With Improved Drive Coupling Assemblies And Brakes

US Patent:
2013007, Mar 28, 2013
Filed:
Mar 21, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/426291
Inventors:
Kevin K. Chakkera - Chandler AZ, US
Ron Vaughan - Gilbert AZ, US
Michael McGill - Lake Forest CA, US
Stephen Birn - Long Beach CA, US
Assignee:
HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F01D 17/10
F01D 17/00
US Classification:
415150
Abstract:
An actuation system is provided for a variable area fan nozzle assembly of an aircraft. The actuation system includes a motor configured to generate a torque; a nozzle; and a drive coupling assembly coupled to the motor and the nozzle. The drive coupling assembly includes a first position in which the torque from the motor is transferred to the nozzle to translate the nozzle and a second position in which the torque from the motor is not transferred to the nozzle. The drive coupling assembly includes a first end portion and a second end portion, the first and second end portions mating with one another in the first position and disengaged from one another in the second position.

Locking Manual Drive Unit For Aircraft Engine Nacelle Door Operating System

US Patent:
2016031, Oct 27, 2016
Filed:
Jul 20, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/803305
Inventors:
- Morristown NJ, US
Timm E. Hartman - Phoenix AZ, US
Ron Vaughan - Gilbert AZ, US
Stephen Birn - Long Beach CA, US
Assignee:
HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
E05F 11/02
E05F 15/00
B64D 29/08
F16H 1/20
Abstract:
An aircraft engine nacelle door operating system locking manual drive unit includes a housing, an input drive shaft, an output drive shaft, a lock shaft, and a lock spring. The input drive shaft, the output drive shaft, and the lock shaft are all rotationally mounted in the housing. The output drive shaft continuously engages and mates with the input drive shaft, and he lock shaft extends at least partially into and engages the input drive shaft. The lock shaft is movable between a lock position, in which it engages and mates with the output drive shaft, and an unlock position, in it is disengaged from the output drive shaft. The lock spring supplies a bias force to the lock shaft that urges the lock shaft toward the lock position.

Aircraft Engine Cowl Door Movement Control System And Method

US Patent:
2015007, Mar 19, 2015
Filed:
Oct 25, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/063247
Inventors:
- Morristown NJ, US
Leroy Allen Fizer - Huntington Beach CA, US
James Wawrzynek - Phoenix AZ, US
Kevin K. Chakkera - Chandler AZ, US
Mohamed A. Salam - Torrance CA, US
William Warr - Glendale CA, US
Stephen Birn - Long Beach CA, US
International Classification:
B64D 29/08
US Classification:
415 1, 415201
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for controlling the movement of an aircraft engine cowl door between an open position and a closed position. The system includes an electric motor, at least one actuator, and an electrically operated brake. The actuator is coupled to the motor and is operable to move the cowl door between the closed and the open position. The electrically operated brake is coupled to the electric motor and the at least one actuator and is configured, upon being energized, to supply a unidirectional resisting torque load to the electric motor that does not prevent motor rotation.
