Abstract:
Serial bus modules with unique multibit identifications that may be searched with multiple modules on a single bus. Modules may contain temperature history per integrated Arrhenius temperature dependent signal. Modules may be packaged as tokens or as two or three lead plastic plastic, also with the three lead packages further functionality as sensors or switches may be incorporated into the modules.

Temperature Sensing Systems And Methods

US Patent:
6217213, Apr 17, 2001
Filed:
May 26, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/084516
Inventors:
Stephen M. Curry - Dallas TX
Michael L. Bolan - Dallas TX
Kevin E. Deierling - Dallas TX
William Lee Payne - Garland TX
Hal Kurkowski - Dallas TX
Assignee:
Dallas Semiconductor Corporation - Dallas TX
International Classification:
G01K 304
US Classification:
374178
Abstract:
A temperature-controlled counter/clock arrangement is provided where th rate or frequency of the counting is temperature dependent. This allows for a measuring of thermal accumulation and/or history. The temperature sensing is based upon the use of the varying current that will flow through a toward biased semiconductor diode. In one embodiment a constant voltage source is used so that the current variation will follow Arrhenius's law.

Metal Token Having Units Of Value Stored Therein Using A Single Wire Communication Method

US Patent:
5974504, Oct 26, 1999
Filed:
Jul 15, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/116020
Inventors:
Robert D. Lee - Denton TX
Stephen M. Curry - Dallas TX
Michael L. Bolan - Dallas TX
Hal Kurkowski - Dallas TX
Donald R. Diaz - Carrollton TX
Francis A. Scherpenberg - Dallas TX
Assignee:
Dallas Semiconductor Corporation - Dallas TX
International Classification:
G06K 19067
H01L 2302
US Classification:
711115
Abstract:
A secured metal token using a single wire communication system is employed to dispense units of value and to provide a secure storage device for controlling the dispensing of articles or service items. The metal token can be formed of two pieces with a simplified electronic circuit inside which can contain units of value for the dispensing of items using the memory within the metal token as a secure vault. The token uses a simple two wire (ground and combined clock/data) arrangment. As goods are purchased or services rendered the value of those good or services is deducted from a prestored amount within the token.

Method Of Communicating Over A Single Wire Bus Between A Host Device And A Module Device Which Measures Thermal Accumulation Over Time

US Patent:
6112275, Aug 29, 2000
Filed:
Dec 28, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/365252
Inventors:
Stephen M. Curry - Dallas TX
Michael L. Bolan - Dallas TX
Kevin E. Deierling - Dallas TX
William Lee Payne - Garland TX
Hal Kurkowski - Dallas TX
Donald R. Dias - Carrollton TX
Gary V. Zanders - Dallas TX
Robert D. Lee - Denton TX
Guenter H. Lehmann - The Colony TX
Assignee:
Dallas Semiconductor Corporation - Dallas TX
International Classification:
H03K 708
US Classification:
711100
Abstract:
A method of communicating information between a host device and a potentially portable module device which measures thermal accumulation over time via a temperature controlled counter. The temperature controlled counter may operate using substantially Arrhenius' law. The host device communicates with the portable module via a single wire bidirectional data bus. The single wire bus and one-wire communication protocol allows data flow between a host and a plurality of devices connected to the single wire bus. The single wire bus allows for a great versatility of uses for the portable module.

Printer Port Adapter With Overlaid One-Wire Interface For Electronic Key

US Patent:
5506991, Apr 9, 1996
Filed:
Dec 19, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/631929
Inventors:
Stephen M. Curry - Dallas TX
Michael L. Bolan - Dallas TX
William L. Payne - Garland TX
Kevin E. Deierling - Dallas TX
Guenter H. Lehmann - Dallas TX
Assignee:
Dallas Semiconductor Corporation - Dallas TX
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
395800
Abstract:
A printer port adapter which permits electronic keys to be accessed through the printer port of the PC, without disrupting the normal operation of the printer port in any mode of operation whatsoever. The electronic keys used have a one-wire signal interface, and this interface can be inserted into the full standard ISA printer port pin assignment, as well as the all known nonstandard additional assignments which have been overlaid onto the standard printer port.

Single Wire Communication System

US Patent:
5864872, Jan 26, 1999
Filed:
May 28, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/654464
Inventors:
Robert D. Lee - Denton TX
Stephen M. Curry - Dallas TX
Michael L. Bolan - Dallas TX
Hal Kurkowski - Dallas TX
Donald R. Diaz - Carrollton TX
Francis A. Scherpenberg - Dallas TX
Kevin E. Deierling - Los Altos Hills CA
Assignee:
Dallas Semiconductor Corporation - Dallas TX
International Classification:
G06F 1200
US Classification:
711115
Abstract:
A communication circuit is provided in which reads from a device are controlled by sensing a transition by a host communicating with a device. The device then accepts a one which holds the line high for a predetermined time period or accepts a zero when the line is held high for a different time period. The sending of data is accomplished in a symmetrical relationship by having the device after the host pulls the line high by either by allowing the line to remain high or forcing the line to ground within the requisite time periods. This allows the "slave" device to consume almost no power in either the read or the write modes.

Method And Apparatus For Encryption Key Creation

US Patent:
5850450, Dec 15, 1998
Filed:
Jul 19, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/690272
Inventors:
Peter Schweitzer - Watertown MA
Stephen M. Curry - Dallas TX
Wendell L. Little - Denton TX
Bryan M. Armstrong - Dallas TX
Christopher W. Fox - Dallas TX
Donald W. Loomis - Coppell TX
Assignee:
Dallas Semiconductor Corporation - Dallas TX
International Classification:
H04L 900
US Classification:
380 30
Abstract:
A portable electronic data module for secure transactions, the electronic data module having a random number generator and an optimized co-processor for producing unbreakable key sets for a two-key cryptosystem. A real-time clock is sampled depending upon an external random event series such as power-ups of the data module by a host apparatus, and based upon the contents of the sample thus obtained, the entropy of a previously-loaded accumulator is further enhanced to achieve a pool of true random numbers. By repeatedly requesting random bytes of information from said pool of random numbers, large random numbers are created which are then rendered prime and used for key set creation.
