Process for providing improved solvent resistant surfaces of relief flexographic printing plates prepared by imagewise exposure and liquid development of the unexposed areas of a layer of a photosensitive elastomeric composition comprising a polymer of a conjugated diolefin hydrocarbon, and a monomeric compound wherein, after drying, the developed surface is in either order (1) postexposed to actinic radiation, and (2) contacted for about 15 seconds to 40 minutes with an aqueous treatment solution of an alkali monopersulfate, e. g. , 2KHSO. sub. 5. KHSO. sub. 4. K. sub. 2 SO. sub. 4 and a bromide salt, e. g. , potassium bromide.

Process For Preparing An Overcoated Photopolymer Printing Plate

Oct 27, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/546154
Inventors:
Robert R. Gruetzmacher - Chadds Ford PA
Stanley H. Munger - Rumson NJ
Assignee:
E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
G03C 500
US Classification:
430300
Abstract:
Process for preparing flexographic photopolymer elements by passing into the nip of a calender a photopolymer composition mass comprising elastomeric binder, monomeric compound, and photoinitiator and calendering the photopolymer composition either between (1) a support and multilayer cover element consisting essentially of a flexible cover film, optionally a flexible polymeric film, e. g. , polyamide, and a layer of elastomeric composition which is photosensitive or becomes photosensitive during or after calendering, or between (2) two supports, one of which is removed prior to contact, e. g. , by lamination or pressing, with the multilayer cover element. The flexographic photopolymer elements are useful for flexographic printing, e. g. , dry-offset, letterpress printing.

Adhesive-Bearing Metal Sheet With Photopolymerizable Layer

US Patent:
4210712, Jul 1, 1980
Filed:
Jun 14, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/915312
Inventors:
Stanley H. Munger - Rumson NJ
Herbert J. Pine - Edison NJ
Assignee:
E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
G03C 194
US Classification:
430275
Abstract:
Adhesive coated metal sheet, e. g. , steel, aluminum, bearing an adhesive layer comprising an ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate and acrylic acid copolymer; styrene and maleate ester copolymer, aqueous colloidal silica, and aqueous latex of a self-curing interpolymer. Pigments, e. g. , ferric oxide, and antifoaming compounds can be present in the adhesive layer which is useful in adhering aqueous soluble photopolymerizable layers to the support. The elements formed are useful for printing.

Process For Photographic Emulsion Precipitation In A Recycle Stream

US Patent:
4147551, Apr 3, 1979
Filed:
Feb 28, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/554226
Inventors:
Loren T. Finnicum - Newark DE
Stanley H. Munger - Rumson NJ
Donald P. Novak - Eatontown NJ
Assignee:
E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
G03C 102
US Classification:
96 94R
Abstract:
A process for preparing a photographic emulsion having a controlled grain size, structure and size distribution, wherein precipitation of first silver halide grains is accomplished in a stream, and partial substitution in the first silver halide grains of a second soluble halide is accomplished in a vessel by halide conversion to form mixed crystal silver halide grains. The initially formed mixed crystal silver halide grains are recycled in the stream wherein additional precipitation of the first silver halide occurs on the surfaces of the mixed crystals, which are enlarged. The enlarged crystals are fed from the recycle stream to a vessel wherein additional substitution by halide conversion is accomplished. Continuous or intermittent recycling of the mixed crystal silver halide grains, control of recycle flow rates, control of addition flow rates of silver salts and soluble halides to the process and control of excess halide concentration in the conversion vessel and recycle stream yields mixed crystal silver halide grains having a controlled grain size, structure and distribution.
