Method To Detect The Presence Of A Microorganism Or Agent In An Animal

US Patent:
2003008, May 1, 2003
Filed:
Aug 7, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/213998
Inventors:
David Smith - Davey NE, US
Laura Hungerford - Silver Spring MD, US
Rodney Moxley - Lincoln NE, US
Susanne Hinkley - Martell NE, US
Terry Klopfenstein - Lincoln NE, US
Jeff Gray - Athens GA, US
Assignee:
The Board of Regents for the University of Nebraska
International Classification:
C12Q001/70
C12Q001/04
US Classification:
435/005000, 435/034000
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method to detect the presence of a microorganism or agent in an animal. The method encompasses placement of devices at various locations where the animal resides so as to induce the animal to initiate contact with the device. As a result of this contact, the animal deposits various microorganisms and agents on the device. The device is then tested for the presence of the particular microorganism or agent of interest.

Method For Biofuel Life Cycle Assessment

US Patent:
2009032, Dec 31, 2009
Filed:
Jun 18, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/487301
Inventors:
Adam Liska - Lincoln NE, US
Haishun Yang - Lincoln NE, US
Kenneth Cassman - Lincoln NE, US
Virgil Ray Bremer - Lincoln NE, US
Terry Klopfenstein - Lincoln NE, US
Galen Erickson - Lincoln NE, US
Assignee:
THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA - Lincoln NE
International Classification:
G05B 21/00
US Classification:
700266
Abstract:
A method for calculating the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy efficiency, and natural resource requirements of a biofuel production system, using a life cycle assessment of biofuel production from the creation of material inputs to finished products, and producing a GHG emissions inventory from fossil fuels and a few key non-fossil fuel GHG emissions in the production life cycle.

Ruminant Feed And Method For Making

US Patent:
5789001, Aug 4, 1998
Filed:
Jun 9, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/489111
Inventors:
Terry James Klopfenstein - Lincoln NE
Thomas Stephen Winowiski - Mosinee WI
Robert Allen Britton - late of Lincoln NE
Assignee:
University of Nebraska - Lincoln NE
International Classification:
A23K 114
A23L 120
US Classification:
426 2
Abstract:
A ruminally inert fat for a ruminant feed is made by applying reducing sugars to oilseed meats and heating to induce non-enzymatic browning. The process is controlled to ensure penetration of the reducing sugars into the interior of cracked oilseed meat prior to browning. The browning reaction renders the protein which surrounds the oil resistant to rumen bacterial degradation to thereby encapsulate the oil in a protective matrix.

Method Of Making And Using A Ruminant Feed

US Patent:
5064665, Nov 12, 1991
Filed:
Jan 26, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/471038
Inventors:
Terry J. Klopfenstein - Lincoln NE
Lowell D. Satterlee - Lincoln NE
Robert A. Britton - Lincoln NE
Ralph N. Cleale - Levittown PA
Assignee:
The Board of Regents of The University of Nebraska - Lincoln NE
International Classification:
A23K 118
US Classification:
426 2
Abstract:
To increase the efficiency of utilizing protein in feed by ruminants, feed containing a protein and a reducing sugar are mixed in quantities suitable for the Maillard reaction. The mixture is heated at a temperature, pH and time sufficient to cause early Maillard reactions but not advanced Maillard reactions.
