Method And Apparatus For Unloading A Railroad Car Containing Bulk Cargo

US Patent:
3993203, Nov 23, 1976
Filed:
Nov 7, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/629993
Inventors:
Thomas S. Bartley - Mobile AL
Assignee:
International Paper Company - New York NY
International Classification:
B65G 6734
US Classification:
214 45
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for unloading bulk cargo from a railroad car that is enclosed within a receiver box which is, in turn, movably mounted within a rotating frame. The car is rotated approximately 180. degree. while selectively attached to the frame to place the cargo within the receiver box. The receiver box is thereafter moved from its car enclosing position and a cover placed thereon. Rotation of the frame, car and covered receiver box approximately 180. degree. places the apparatus in a position to discharge the cargo from the receiver box and the car from the frame.

Industrial Building Structure System

US Patent:
3961712, Jun 8, 1976
Filed:
Oct 31, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/519647
Inventors:
Thomas S. Bartley - Mobile AL
Assignee:
International Paper Company - New York NY
International Classification:
B66C 1706
US Classification:
212 5
Abstract:
An industrial building structure system is provided having a overhead crane and hoist system. More particularly, a building has a series of longitudinally aligned sections each with removable roof structures over which a gantry-type crane housing can be moved. Individual roof sections are removed by the appropriate crane mechanism within the crane housing and other cranes mounted within the crane housing can be used for normal repair or maintenance work within the interior of the particular building section. A much reduced size building is thereby provided with an overhead crane system which can operate inside the building. Provision is made to enclose the building section when the roof is raised by adjustable end wall members on the crane housing.

Industrial Building Structure And Method Of Erection

US Patent:
4165590, Aug 28, 1979
Filed:
Jun 7, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/804243
Inventors:
Thomas S. Bartley - Mobile AL
Assignee:
International Paper Company - New York NY
International Classification:
E04B 1346
US Classification:
52 66
Abstract:
An improved industrial building structure for housing the dryer section of a paper-making machine where a building substructure transfers the substantial part of the weight of a building superstructure and roof to the opposed, weight-bearing sides of the dryer frame. Edge-abutted roof sections completely spanning the dryer frame and individually rotatable about edge-mounted hinges allow access to the top of the dryer for maintenance. Operating and maintenance spaces at the sides of the dryer are defined and enclosed by the substructure.

Apparatus And Method For The Indirect Measurement And Control Of The Flow Rate Of A Liquid In A Piping System

US Patent:
4108574, Aug 22, 1978
Filed:
Jan 21, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/761214
Inventors:
Thomas S. Bartley - Mobile AL
Quinlan T. Rosenblath - Mobile AL
Assignee:
International Paper Company - New York NY
International Classification:
F04B 4906
F04B 4908
US Classification:
417 19
Abstract:
Apparatus and process for automatically measuring and controlling the instantaneous flow rate of a liquid in a piping system by varying the speed of a centrifugal pump in response to a flow rate signal determined indirectly by sampling two flow-related parameters associated with the pump and pump motor and then converting in an on-line computer the two measurements to the corresponding unique flow rate value by the use of previously determined mathematical relationships stored in the computer. The mathematical relationships are derived from data correlating flow rate with the two flow-related variables, which data is taken with a flow meter and control valve temporarily installed in the piping system during the "shake-down" testing of the piping system. A third flow-related variable is sampled, a pair of flow rate values determined, and an alarm activated in response to the difference between the values to provide the additional feature of pump mechanical performance monitoring. A viscosity-related property of the fluid also is determined indirectly by the use of a mathematical relationship whenever three flow-related variables are monitored, the mathematical relationships having been derived from data taken by running fluids of different but known values of the viscosity-related property through the piping system during the "shake-down" testing.

Apparatus For Supplying Wood Fiber Material To A Pulp Paper Plant Through A Single Off-Loading Station

US Patent:
4221520, Sep 9, 1980
Filed:
Jun 19, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/916882
Inventors:
Thomas S. Bartley - Mobile AL
Assignee:
International Paper Company - New York NY
International Classification:
B65G 6748
US Classification:
414355
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for supplying wood fiber material in both roundwood and chip form to a pulp paper plant through a single off-loading station having a rotary railroad car dumper for unloading fiber material to a receiver box including a platform for receiving the fiber material transferred at an elevated position from the receiver box, a wall for guiding material being transferred onto the platform, and a plurality of plows for segregating the wood fiber material and for moving the roundwood and chip materials along the deck in separate directions toward separate conveying systems.

Conveyor Apparatus

US Patent:
4244463, Jan 13, 1981
Filed:
Jul 18, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/058612
Inventors:
Thomas S. Bartley - Mobile AL
Assignee:
V-V Systems, Inc. - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
B65G 6528
US Classification:
198508
Abstract:
A conveyor apparatus for conveying loose bulk material such as gravel and other granular materials from an in-feed location to an out-feed location. The apparatus includes a body for rotating about a vertical axis and a plurality of wings fixedly attached to the body and extending radially outward from the vertical axis. A portion of the wings is positioned substantially adjacent the in-feed location. Another portion of the wings is positioned substantially adjacent the out-feed location. Rotation of the body causes the wings to rotate and to convey the loose bulk material from the in-feed location to the out-feed location.
