Abstract:
A copying and or printing apparatus including a duplex feeder for feeding sheets having had page image information copied/printed on one side thereof, back to a copying/printing station for transferring page image information to the other side thereof. The duplex feeder includes a buffer tray that can be positioned above and slightly upstream of a feeder tray. The buffer tray stores copy sheets exceeding the maximum capacity of the feeder tray such that the copier/printer can process a greater number of duplex copies in a single run.

Abstract:
High speed printers with extended run capabilities are disclosed. A plurality of like containers are provided for carrying copy sheets to the printer and for receiving copy output from the printer. The containers are fed one after the other to supply input sheets or receive output sheets. Spent input trays or filled output trays are moved transversely to the exterior of the printer. Conveyors are utilized for the continuous feeding of copy sheet input containers or copy sheet receiving containers.

Abstract:
A high throughput, single pass direct transfer color printer utilizing a roll web based design which simplifies tandem engine architecture by eliminating a very difficult subsystem. Improved image registration is achieved simply by position/velocity synchronization of the paper web with respect to photoreceptors of the tandem print engines. Frictional slip between the web and an overrunning vacuum transport develops web tension which in turn provides a positive contact between the web and the photoreceptors needed for good image transfer. An arcuate convex paper path increases normal forces applied to the engines which increases contact pressure, as well as increasing contact surface area of the engines and the web. A web buckle between the vacuum transport and a fuser is provided to reduce vibrational disturbances and a cutter furnishes a printout in an appropriate size.

An apparatus in which successive developer units are moved to a development zone to develop, with different color toner, successive latent images recorded on a photoconductive member. A method of changing the reference timing of a sheet transport control in an imaging forming device for determining the validity of the timing of a sheet by comparing the actual timing of a sheet with a a given reference timing. Actual timings for a plurality of copy sheets in relation to a predetermined sensor are stored in memory. A typical time period from the plurality of copy sheets is then determined in relation to the sensor and the reference timing for the sensor is adjusted based upon the typical time period for the sensor.

Abstract:
A device for selectively turning documents includes first and second drive rollers aligned along an axis which is transverse to a process direction along which documents are fed, and first and second follower rollers cooperatively peripherally aligned with the first and second drive rollers, respectively. One of the drive rollers is operated at a substantially constant peripheral velocity by a first drive which is a constant velocity motor while the other drive roller is operated at a variable peripheral velocity by a variable speed drive so that the document is turned. Thus, only a single variable speed drive, such as, for example a stepper motor or servo system, is required. The variable speed drive is driven through a variable velocity profile to control the amount of rotation of the document. Preferably the document is turned approximately 90. degree. By placing a pair of sensors adjacent the drive rollers, the skew of the document prior to being rotated can be measured and used to determine the velocity profile for controlling the variable speed motor.
