General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B60P 702
US Classification:
2961001, 29610003, 29610005, 29610006, 29610001
Abstract:
A vehicle body has a roof-enclosed passenger compartment and a rear cargo compartment. The cargo compartment has a cover and a tailgate to close the cargo compartment. The cover is movable along a pair of tracks from its closed position on the cargo compartment to a stowed position on top of the passenger compartment. The cover has an intermediate position above the cargo compartment which serves as a camper top and with the addition of zip-on side covers converts the vehicle body to a camper. The intermediate position of the cover in conjunction with the roof of the vehicle body also provides support for hauling long cargo.

Trunk Release Handle For Automobiles

US Patent:
7029138, Apr 18, 2006
Filed:
Jun 25, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/603676
Inventors:
Patricia C. Tibbenham - West Bloomfield MI, US
David Dean - Commerce Township MI, US
Wieslaw S. Zaydel - Rochester MI, US
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, LLC - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
F21V 9/16
US Classification:
362 84, 362488, 362501, 362542, 362812
Abstract:
An emergency trunk release handle for an automobile displays the graphics explaining the use and function of the handle by cutting out the material from the handle. Forming the emergency release handle from a phosphorescent plastic material that can be formed by a molding process, such as injection molding, the cut-out graphics show as darkened areas, when viewed in the dark confines of an automobile trunk, to provide a high degree of visibility for the graphics. The graphics are also visible when seen against the dark carpet in the interior of an opened trunk cavity. The formation of the graphics is accomplished by coring the mold in the configuration of the desired graphics and by forming the plastic material in the mold around the cores. The resultant handle structure is thus formed in a cost effective manner that reduces the process failure potential during the manufacturing of the handle.

Waffle Stud For Insert Molded Plastic Members

US Patent:
7156598, Jan 2, 2007
Filed:
Oct 27, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/974051
Inventors:
Patricia Tibbenham - West Bloomfield MI, US
David Dean - Commerce Township MI, US
Wieslaw Zaydel - Rochester MI, US
Michelle Winowski-Zaydel - Oxford MI, US
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, LLC - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
F16B 39/282
F16B 39/02
F16B 23/00
US Classification:
411 82, 411404, 411187, 411188, 411176, 411107, 16430
Abstract:
A fastener is configured for use in the manufacture of molded plastic components that will be subsequently attached to other components by the fastener. The low profile head portion of the fastener has a rounded contoured and convoluted top surface to facilitate the flow of plastic material around the head portion during the molding process. The underside of the head portion is formed with a square face surrounded circumferentially by circumferential land surfaces that provides a high pull-out force resistance for the fastener. The square face on the underside and convoluted top surface of the head portion provides a high spin-out torque resistance without sacrificing the pull-out force resistance. The rounded edges of the head portion are compatible with molding processes to allow the flow of plastic material to fully encapsulate the head portion within the molded plastic component.

Reduced-Footprint Night Illumination Laser System

US Patent:
7186006, Mar 6, 2007
Filed:
Oct 29, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/978829
Inventors:
David A. Dean - Commerce Twp. MI, US
Richard Drumsta - Walled Lake MI, US
Wieslaw S. Zaydel - Milford MI, US
Michelle A. Winowski-Zaydel - Milford MI, US
Assignee:
Pursuit Engineering LLC - Milford MI
International Classification:
G02B 27/18
US Classification:
362259, 362294
Abstract:
The present invention provides for a laser diode light diffusion unit that comprises a casing with a lens cover that holds a laser diode mounted on a heat sink a mirror a collimator lens and a holographic diffusion screen The casing is made of a rigid thermally conducting material, and the heat sink is mounted within the casing such that a concentrated beam of light produced by the laser diode is directed at the mirror The concentrated beam of light directed at the mirror is reflected at approximately 90 into the base of the collimator lens where the collimator lens converts the concentrated beam of light into a plane of light that is projected over and in opposite direction to the path of the concentrated beam of light The plane of light then passes through the holographic diffusion screen where the holographic diffusion screen spreads the plane of light at predetermined angles which then passes through the lens cover and out of the casing.
