Apparatus And Method For Measuring Viscosity Of A Fluid

US Patent:
2013029, Nov 14, 2013
Filed:
May 13, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/892952
Inventors:
Robert Matthew Dean - Houston TX, US
Jack Berroteran - San Ramon CA, US
Sophany Thach - Houston TX, US
Varadarajan Dwarakanath - Houston TX, US
Will S. Slaughter - Houston TX, US
Taimur Malik - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - San Ramon CA
International Classification:
G01N 11/04
US Classification:
73 5401
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for measuring the viscosity of a fluid. The apparatus typically includes an inlet line that is configured to receive a flow of the fluid, and at least one porous medium column that receives the flow of the fluid from the inlet line and resists the flow so that a pressure of the fluid at the outlet is less than a pressure of the fluid at the inlet. A pressure sensor is configured to measure a pressure differential between an inlet and outlet of the column, and the sensor is adapted to determine the viscosity of the fluid according to the pressure differential and the permeability of the porous medium.

Method For Remediation Of Damage In Regions Of Formations Near Injection Wells

US Patent:
2017035, Dec 14, 2017
Filed:
Jul 12, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/647922
Inventors:
- San Ramon CA, US
Robert Matthew Dean - Houston TX, US
Will S. Slaughter - Houston TX, US
Dustin Luke Walker - Katy TX, US
Sophany Thach - Houston TX, US
International Classification:
C09K 8/58
E21B 43/16
C09K 8/52
C09K 8/03
Abstract:
Aspects of the invention relate to compositions and methods that are used for the remediation of near-wellbore damage in regions of formations near injection wells in communication with subterranean reservoirs. The damage is caused by previous injection of a polymer emulsion into the injection well. A specific aspect is a method of injecting into the subterranean reservoir a composition containing an olefin sulfonate, a sulfosuccinate, and a chemical selected from an alcohol alkoxylated sulfate, an alcohol alkoxylated carboxylate, or a combination thereof. The polymer emulsion is thereby dissolved, cleaned and/or flushed away from the region near the injection well.

Systems And Methods For Inline Chemical Injection For Dump Flood Water Injectors

US Patent:
2015037, Dec 31, 2015
Filed:
Jun 25, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/750284
Inventors:
Robert Matthew Dean - Houston TX, US
Varadarjan Dwarakanath - Houston TX, US
Taimur Malik - Houston TX, US
Will Sherman Slaughter - Katy TX, US
Dustin L. Walker - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - San Ramon CA
International Classification:
E21B 43/16
E21B 33/124
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides techniques for inline injection of water and chemicals for a dump flood. The techniques include collecting water from a source reservoir into a water collection zone of an adjacent water injection well, and injecting a chemical solution into the water injection well. The water and the chemical solution are then mixed downhole in a mixer, such as a static mixer. The mixed injection fluid is then directly injected into an adjacent target reservoir.

Alkali Polymer Surfactant Sandwich

US Patent:
2014026, Sep 18, 2014
Filed:
Mar 15, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/835030
Inventors:
Robert Matthew Dean - Houston TX, US
Dustin L. Walker - Katy TX, US
Will S. Slaughter - Houston TX, US
Taimur Malik - Houston TX, US
Varadarajan Dwarakanath - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - San Ramon CA
International Classification:
E21B 43/16
US Classification:
166300
Abstract:
Aspects of the invention relate to methods for enhancing the amount of oil recovered from subterranean reservoirs or reducing the amount of surfactant needed. The method includes injecting a first alkali-polymer slug through a wellbore into a reservoir, followed by injecting a alkali-polymer-surfactant slug through the wellbore into the reservoir, and then injecting a second alkali-polymer slug through the wellbore into the reservoir.
