Bill joined Ogilvy & Mather as a senior art director in 1987 to work on the newly acquired Microsoft account. At the time, Microsoft was a $6 million account with virtually no brand recognition.
Bill played a key role in growing the account to $260 million in agency billing by 1995.
Bill launched Windows 3.1 (at the time, the most successful high-tech launch ever) and won him the David Ogilvy Award for best advertising for the entire worldwide agency, as well as best ad in the computer category (according to Adweek 1992).
His ad campaign for Excel created and won the spreadsheet wars, helping to convert millions of Lotus 1-2-3 users to adopt Excel.
Bill also created the campaign that launched Microsoft Office in 1993. And in 1994 he developed for Microsaoft the worlds first subscription-based software marketing program, which is still in use today.
