Bone Cement Compositions Having Fiber-Reinforcement And/Or Increased Flowability

US Patent:
7628851, Dec 8, 2009
Filed:
May 30, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/130287
Inventors:
Bryan Monro Armitage - Minneapolis MN, US
Ira C Ison - San Jose CA, US
Mark Thomas Fulmer - Glenmoore PA, US
Sean Hamilton Kerr - Oreland PA, US
Michael Lehmicke - Media PA, US
Patrick Leamy - Downingtown PA, US
William Schiffer - Oxford PA, US
Assignee:
Synthes USA, LLC - West Chester PA
International Classification:
A61F 2/28
US Classification:
106691, 106 35, 106776, 106778, 106772, 106774, 106775, 106780, 623 2356, 623 2351, 623 2361, 623 2358, 424602, 424603, 424696
Abstract:
The present invention relates in general to implantable compositions, and method for preparing same, containing a calcium salt-containing component, optionally demineralized bone, a plurality of discrete fibers, optionally a flow additive, and optionally continuous reinforcing fibers or an array of organized fibers in the form of mesh. Advantageously, the discrete fibers have a specific aspect ratio (length/diameter) from about 50:1 to about 1000:1. The addition of a small amount of discrete fibers and/or the continuous reinforcing fibers or fiber mesh can cause drastic increases in certain mechanical properties including flexural strength, flexural toughness, and/or screw pullout strength.

Dental Product, Kit, System And Method

US Patent:
2002006, Jun 6, 2002
Filed:
Dec 14, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/016924
Inventors:
Andrew Lichkus - York PA, US
William Schiffer - Dover PA, US
Craig Nalbone - York PA, US
Michael DeCavalcante - Camp Hill PA, US
International Classification:
A61C013/00
US Classification:
433/199100, 433/167000, 433/180000
Abstract:
The invention provides a dental device comprising thermoplastic polyamide having a Charpy notched impact strength of at least 3.5 ft-lb/in. Preferably the polyamide comprises at least 10 percent by weight of micro-crystals having a largest dimension less than 750 nanometers. Preferably the device is a Denture base, denture, partial denture, clasp, splint, or night guard. Preferably, the polyamide has an opacity of less than 30 percent. The invention provides a metal cartridge container containing particles of thermoplastic polyamide effectively free of pigment. The metal cartridge is used in a method of making a partial dental prosthesis having a substantially transparent clasp. First a substantially transparent thermoplastic is injected into a first portion of a mold cavity of a mold containing an artificial tooth, and then a substantially opaque thermoplastic injecting into a second portion of the mold cavity. The removable partial dental prosthesis formed includes an artificial tooth supported by a base integrally connected to a clasp, wherein the base includes pigment and is substantially opaque, and the clasp is substantially transparent and effectively without pigment.
