Circuit Board Mounted Connector Ground

US Patent:
6343956, Feb 5, 2002
Filed:
Jan 18, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/764577
Inventors:
William Stickney - Cresco PA
Assignee:
Laird Technologies Inc. - Delaware Water Gap PA
International Classification:
H01R 13648
US Classification:
439609, 439939
Abstract:
A connector ground for mounting on a circuit board is provided which includes an upper surface with a U-shaped slot defining a tab. The upper surface further includes an obliquely upwardly extending spring finger. When the spring finger is free of external contact, the tab is coplanar with the upper surface so that the tab does not contact a shielded connector which is mounted to the circuit board and straddled by the connector ground. However, when the spring finger contacts the face plate or similar structure of the enclosure after the circuit board has been installed, both the spring finger and the tab rotate so that the tab contacts the shielded connector.

Compliant Shaped Emi Shield

US Patent:
6713672, Mar 30, 2004
Filed:
Dec 6, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/314456
Inventors:
William Stickney - Cresco PA
Assignee:
Laird Technologies, Inc. - Delaware Water Gap PA
International Classification:
H05K 900
US Classification:
174 35GC, 174 65 R, 439609, 439927
Abstract:
Disclosed are devices for shielding one or more connection ports from electromagnetic interference emissions. In one embodiment, the device includes a conformal member having a proximal aperture, a distal aperture, and a channel extending therethrough. The distal aperture has a maximum cross-sectional dimension that is less than about one half of a cutoff wavelength, thereby forming a waveguide for attenuating EMI signals that have a wavelength greater than a predetermined cutoff wavelength. In another embodiment, the conformable member includes first conformable element and a second conformable element. The conformable elements, when mated, form a proximal aperture, a distal aperture, and a channel extending therethrough having substantially the dimensional characteristics described above.

Electromagnetic Shield For Printed Circuit Board

US Patent:
4754101, Jun 28, 1988
Filed:
Oct 23, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/922409
Inventors:
William H Stickney - Delaware Water Gap PA
Ronald W. Brewer - Bushhill PA
Assignee:
Instrument Specialties Co., Inc. - Delaware Water Gap PA
International Classification:
H25K 900
US Classification:
174 35R
Abstract:
An electromagnetic shield includes electrically conductive walls arranged to form a closed boundry. The walls include pins projecting from a lower edge to secure the shield on a printed circuit board and to provide a connection to a conducting layer in the printed circuit board and engagement prongs on the upper edge to engage a cover plate.

Electromagnetic Shielding And Environmental Sealing Device

US Patent:
4864076, Sep 5, 1989
Filed:
Oct 24, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/261415
Inventors:
William H. Stickney - Cresco PA
Assignee:
Instrument Specialties Co., Inc. - Delaware Water Gap PA
International Classification:
H05K 900
US Classification:
174 35GC
Abstract:
An electromagnetic shielding and environmental sealing device includes an elastomer strip that is attached to a metal strip. The metal strip includes a base member and a plurality of fingers that extend from one edge of the base member at an angle. The elastomer strip includes a base portion, an extension portion that is attached to one edge of the base portion and extends at an angle with respect to the base portion and a sealing portion that is attached to the opposite edge of the base portion. The base member of the metal strip has a plurality of cut-out areas positioned therein that define contact tabs. The contact tabs are capable of deflecting out of the plane defined by immediately adjoining areas of the base member when a force is applied to the device. In that way, proper electrical contact is maintained with respect to the device and the surface to which it is attached.

Track Mounted Electromagnetic Shielding Device

US Patent:
5001297, Mar 19, 1991
Filed:
May 23, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/355752
Inventors:
Walter A. Peregrim - Wilkes-Barre PA
William H. Stickney - Cresco PA
Ronald W. Brewer - Bushkill PA
Assignee:
Instrument Specialties Company, Inc. - Delaware Water Gap PA
International Classification:
H05K 900
US Classification:
174 35GC
Abstract:
An electromagnetic shielding device for use along gaps between relatively movable surfaces of doors, access panels, drawers, and cabinets, etc. , includes an electrically conductive shielding strip formed of longitudinally arranged segments integrally connected by a carrier strip. Each segment is mounted on a corresponding segment of a mount track which is adapted to securely lock the shielding strip in place. The design of the electromagnetic shielding device of the present invention provides enhanced capabilities of electromagnetic shielding as well as improvements in structural rigidity and mechanical durability. The design also facilitates installation of shielding in confined areas and repair of damaged shielding.

Clip Mounted Electromagnetic Shielding Device

US Patent:
5029254, Jul 2, 1991
Filed:
Mar 23, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/497619
Inventors:
William H. Stickney - Cresco PA
Assignee:
Instrument Specialties Company, Inc. - Delaware Water Gap PA
International Classification:
H05K 900
US Classification:
174 35GC
Abstract:
An electromagnetic shielding device for use along gaps between relatively movable surfaces of doors, access panels, drawers, and cabinets, etc. , includes an electrically conductive shielding strip and a clamping element. The shielding device also includes a mechanism that secures the shielding strip to the clamping element when the shielding device is not mounted on a surface. When mounted on a surface, the shielding strip is held in position by the clamping element. The shielding strip is formed so as to avoid being exposed to excessive stress.
