Abstract:
A novel resistance gene and its encoded protein isolated from the wild potato, , are disclosed. The gene and protein are useful for conferring disease resistance to plants, particularly resistance to potato late blight disease in solanaceous species such as potato, tomato, and tobacco. Compositions and methods that use the genes and proteins of this invention to enhance plant disease resistance are also disclosed, as are transgenic plants that comprise the novel resistance genes and proteins.
