A catheter assembly may include an introducer needle coupled to a needle hub, an intermediate member having a contact surface, a resilient member, and a ramp member. The resilient member may be coupled to one of the needle hub and the intermediate member. The ramp member may be coupled to the other one of the needle hub and the intermediate member. The resilient member may engage a ramp surface of the ramp member and impart a force on the intermediate member in a distal direction. The contact surface of the intermediate member may engage a proximal surface of a catheter adapter body and urge the catheter adapter body in the distal direction such that a catheter projecting from the catheter adapter body may be translated in the distal direction relative to the introducer needle.

A needleless access connector may include a body, which may include a proximal end configured to couple to an instrument delivery device and a distal end configured to couple to a peripheral intravenous catheter assembly. The needleless access connector may also include an accordion valve disposed within the body between the proximal end and the distal end. The accordion valve may include an accordion portion. In response to compression of the accordion portion and opening of the accordion valve, a straight pathway extending through the proximal end and the distal end may be exposed such that an instrument of the instrument delivery device may move distally from the proximal end to the distal end through the straight pathway without bending.

A delivery device for delivering an instrument into a catheter assembly may include a syringe having a barrel and a plunger movable within the barrel. In response to depression of the plunger within the barrel, an instrument may be advanced distally. The instrument may include a catheter, a probe, a light tube for disinfection, or another suitable instrument. In response to depression of the plunger within the barrel, a distal end of the instrument may move through a catheter assembly coupled to the delivery device and into vasculature of a patient.
