Apparatus And Method For Coating Particulate Material

US Patent:
2013025, Sep 26, 2013
Filed:
Jun 12, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/494479
Inventors:
Stephen M. Loucks - Ames IA, US
Robert J. Wampler - Ankeny IA, US
Terry Potter - Ames IA, US
Brent Packer - Ames IA, US
David Roller - Kokomo IN, US
Douglas Grunder - Mt. Vernon IA, US
Assignee:
Becker Underwood, Inc. - Ames IA
International Classification:
B05C 3/08
B05D 7/00
US Classification:
427222, 118612
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for coating a particulate material. A mixer defines a mixing chamber and receives a particulate material. An agitator includes a plurality of arms projecting radially outward from the shaft and a plurality of paddle blades positioned on the ends of the arms. The blades are formed such that the particulate material in the mixing chamber is directed in a rotational direction, a radially inward direction and an axial direction within the mixing chamber. A material feed system is provided for delivering a first coating material into the mixing chamber during rotation of the agitator, a polymer material during mixing of the coated particulate material and a reaction material for causing a reaction between the colorant feed and the polymer feed for creating an encapsulated particulate material.

Functional Treatment Application To Particulate Materials Such As Mulch Or Potting Soil

US Patent:
2017008, Mar 23, 2017
Filed:
May 15, 2015
Appl. No.:
15/310924
Inventors:
- Florham Park NJ, US
Brent Packer - Ames IA, US
Laura Phillips - Pleasantville IA, US
International Classification:
B05B 15/00
A01G 9/10
B05B 9/03
A01G 13/02
Abstract:
In a method of coating a particulate material, a particulate material is fed into a mixing chamber. The particulate material is agitated within the mixing chamber and conveyed to a mixing chamber outlet. A coating is directed into the mixing chamber and the flow of the coating is controlled based on the volumetric flow rate of the particulate material into the mixing chamber. The coating includes at least one compound selected from herbicides, insecticides, nutrients, wetting agents, surfactants, fungicides, biologicals, inoculants, and mixtures thereof.

Apparatus And Method For Coating Particulate Material

US Patent:
2016008, Mar 24, 2016
Filed:
Apr 24, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/785283
Inventors:
- Florham Park NJ, US
Brent Christopher Packer - Ames IA, US
David Chamberlain Roller - Kokomo IN, US
Douglas Edward Grunder - Mt Vernon IA, US
International Classification:
B05B 12/00
B05B 12/12
B05B 7/12
B05B 15/00
B01J 2/10
B05B 1/14
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are defined for coating a particulate material. The apparatus includes a mixer having a mixing chamber. A quantity of particulate material is fed into an inlet of the mixing chamber. An agitator is provided for mixing and conveying the particulate material. A feed system is also provided for delivery of a coating into the mixing chamber. The coating is delivered as an atomized spray directed at the mixing particulate material within the mixing chamber. A controller is provided for adjusting the flow of the coating into the mixing chamber based on the volumetric feed rate of the particulate material.

Apparatus And Method For Coating Particulate Material

US Patent:
2016008, Mar 24, 2016
Filed:
Nov 30, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/954706
Inventors:
- Florham Park NJ, US
Brent Christopher Packer - Ames IA, US
David Chamberlain Roller - Kokomo IN, US
Douglas Edward Grunder - Mt Vernon IA, US
International Classification:
C09K 17/52
A01N 53/00
A01N 43/10
A01N 47/44
B05D 1/12
A01N 33/18
Abstract:
In a method of treating a particulate landscaping material, the material is fed into a mixing chamber and an additive mixture including a functional additive and a carrier is delivered to spray nozzles within the mixing chamber. At least one of the spray nozzles is operated to direct an atomized spray into the mixing chamber. The material is agitated within the mixing chamber during and/or after directing the atomized spray into the mixing chamber. The material is then conveyed with the additive mixture applied thereto to a mixing chamber outlet. During these steps, a volumetric flow rate of the particulate landscape material through the mixing chamber is intermittently determined. The determined volumetric flow rate is intermittently compared to a predetermined target flow rate of the particulate landscape material. Based on this comparison, the volumetric flow rate of the particulate landscape material through the mixing chamber is adjusted.
