Positionable Cultivating Apparatus For Raised Bed Crops

US Patent:
6935435, Aug 30, 2005
Filed:
Nov 18, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/992581
Inventors:
John E. Shenk - Lititz PA, US
International Classification:
A01B015/20
A01B007/00
A01B035/32
US Classification:
172600, 172654, 172656, 172582
Abstract:
A cultivating implement has transversely opposing sub-frames slidably mounted in the main frame of the implement to permit lateral positional adjustment of work implements carried by the sub-frames. The work implements are supported by a mounting apparatus providing a tilt adjustment, a horizontal rotational adjustment, and a transverse spacing adjustment for each respective work implement. A tilt control plate limits the transverse tilting movement of the work implement, while a rotation control plate limits the rotational movement of the work implement in a horizontal plane. A rotatable powered brush attachment can be supported on the sub-frame to provide a gentle cultivating action for the edges of plastic material covering the crop row. A pivot linkage operated through a hydraulic actuator provides simultaneous lateral movement of the opposing sub-frames to affect selective positional adjustment of the work implements. The frame is pivoted to the hitch to offset side hill operation.

Method And System For Increasing Optical Instrument Calibration And Prediction Accuracy Within And Across Different Optical Instrument Platforms

US Patent:
8108170, Jan 31, 2012
Filed:
Jan 22, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/357830
Inventors:
John S. Shenk - Columbia MD, US
John W. Shenk - Columbia MD, US
William F. Brown - Columbia MD, US
Paolo Berzaghi - Columbia MD, US
Assignee:
Unity Scientific - Brookfield CT
International Classification:
G01D 18/00
G01R 35/00
US Classification:
702 85, 356319, 702179, 703 2
Abstract:
A method and system for increasing optical instrument calibration and prediction accuracy within and across different optical instrument platforms can comprise two main submethods or routines. The first routine can include one for correcting differences among optical instruments of different model types regardless of the manufacturer and correcting differences among optical instruments of the same model type. The second main routine or sub-method can include one for analyzing new samples of a product over time and maintaining prediction accuracy as compared to a reference method over time. The first routine can include a “TRANS” procedure, a “MIN” procedure, and checkcell tests. The second main routine provides techniques on how a product database can be cleaned, condensed, and expanded automatically as it is used by one or more different optical instruments.
