Method And System For Efficiently Generating Parameterized Bus Transactions

US Patent:
6970816, Nov 29, 2005
Filed:
Aug 14, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/638268
Inventors:
Paul David Bryan - Raleigh NC, US
Richard Gerard Hofmann - Apex NC, US
Peter Dean LaFauci - Holly Springs NC, US
William Robert Lee - Apex NC, US
Rhonda Gurganious Mitchell - Fuquay-Varina NC, US
Timothy Patrick Oke - Apex NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F017/50
US Classification:
703 22, 703 13, 714 39
Abstract:
A method and system for efficiently generating parameterized bus transactions for verification of a design-under-test (DUT) comprises providing a configuration file for the DUT to a generator program. The configuration file defines possible parameter combinations for bus transactions executable by the DUT, and the generator program systematically enumerates all the possible combinations to produce a test case for verifying the DUT. Rules specified within the configuration file can include or exclude selected parameter combinations to tailor the test case to a specific DUT-to-bus interface.

Testable Embedded Microprocessor And Method Of Testing Same

US Patent:
5254940, Oct 19, 1993
Filed:
Dec 13, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/628202
Inventors:
Timothy P. Oke - Milpitas CA
Russell E. Cummings - Milpitas CA
Nachum M. Gavrielov - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
LSI Logic Corporation - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
G01R 3128
US Classification:
324158R
Abstract:
A technique of gaining direct access to the inputs and outputs of an embedded microprocessor, otherwise buried behind additional logic, is disclosed. Multiplexers are provided for at least the embedded microprocessor inputs and outputs. In a test mode, the multiplexers connect device input and output pads directly to the embedded microprocessor inputs and outputs. In a normal operating mode, the multiplexers connect the additional logic to the input and output pads. Preferably, in order to standardize design criteria, multiplexers are provided on all of the inputs and outputs of the microprocessor which may become embedded behind additional logic. Additionally, it is possible in the test mode to control the additional logic to a well defined state. The invention provides a simple way to isolate the embedded microprocessor from the rest of the logic and test it thoroughly using test vectors that have already been developed for the stand-alone microprocessor.
