Method To Identify Voice Over Packet Device Capability And Use It To Make Appropriate Calls With Other Client Devices

US Patent:
7944896, May 17, 2011
Filed:
Apr 26, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/114187
Inventors:
Vikram Kumar Rawat - Concord CA, US
Derek Hongwei Bao - Concord CA, US
Assignee:
Cellco Partnership - Basking Ridge NJ
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
370338, 455518
Abstract:
A system provides push-to-talk (PTT) or similar communication service via a radio access network providing wireless mobile packet data communications for mobile stations. A server distributes packets of digitized audio received from a broadcasting mobile station to one or more client devices of other parties. The called client device(s), however, may not all have the same communications capabilities as the broadcasting mobile station. Signaling procedures are adapted to inform the broadcasting station of the capabilities of the other client device(s). This enables the broadcasting mobile station to configure its transmissions of digitized audio through the network for compatibility with the capabilities of the other client device(s). Proper configuration avoids loss of data at the destination, particularly at the start of a PTT transmission, due to transmission in a form or configuration that may be incompatible with one or more of the receiving stations.

Abstract:
A method, performed by a first mobility management entity (MME) device in a network, includes receiving, from a second MME device, standby database information associated with user equipment (UE) registered with the second MME device; detecting that the second MME device has failed or lost connectivity; designating that the UEs registered with the second MME device will be registered with the first MME device, in response to detecting that the second MME device has failed or lost connectivity; detecting a request to activate a particular UE registered with the second MME device; and paging the particular UE to register with the first MME device, using the standby database information and in response to detecting the request to activate the particular UE.

Detecting Mobile Device Usage Within Wireless Networks

US Patent:
8442556, May 14, 2013
Filed:
Dec 13, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/966321
Inventors:
Vikram K. Rawat - San Ramon CA, US
Derek Hongwei H. Bao - Concord CA, US
Patricia Ruey-Jane Chang - San Ramon CA, US
David Chiang - Fremont CA, US
Assignee:
Verizon Patent and Licensing Inc. - Basking Ridge NJ
Cellco Partnership - Basking Ridge NJ
International Classification:
H04W 24/00
US Classification:
4554562, 4554561, 455457, 455 6711, 34053913
Abstract:
A device sends, to a mobile device, instructions to collect location-based data associated with calls conducted by the mobile device over a wireless access network and receives, from the mobile device, the location-based data, where the location-based data includes a three-dimensional location and a time associated with each of multiple calls conducted by the mobile device over the wireless access network. The device combines the location-based data with other location-based data from other mobile devices and identifies, based on the combined location-based data and other location-based data, a localized area of congestion for the wireless access network.

Implementation Methodology For Client Initiated Parameter Negotiation For Ptt/Voip Type Services

US Patent:
2004019, Oct 7, 2004
Filed:
Apr 2, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/404068
Inventors:
Derek Bao - Concord CA, US
Vikram Rawat - Concord CA, US
Assignee:
CELLCO PARTNERSHIP as VERIZON WIRELESS
International Classification:
H04L012/66
US Classification:
370/352000, 370/465000
Abstract:
Voice over data-packet protocol, for example voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), type communications in a network providing wireless packet data service are optimized by implementation of a mobile station initiated negotiation of radio protocol parameters adapted specifically to support the voice over data-packet application. Call set-up signaling for such a call utilizes a set of parameters for radio communication defined for a normal packet data service, for example, with packet retransmission between the base station and the mobile station. The mobile station recognizes the VoIP communication. When VoIP call set-up signaling over the robust link is complete, the mobile station sends a request to the radio network to modify one or more of the radio parameters, for example, to turn-OFF the packet retransmission; to facilitate the actual communication of VoIP packets.

Dec 28, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/979547
Inventors:
Lalit R. KOTECHA - San Ramon CA, US
Steven R. Rados - Danville CA, US
Patricia Ruey-Jane Chang - San Ramon CA, US
Vikram K. Rawat - San Ramon CA, US
Yee Sin Chan - San Jose CA, US

Abstract:
A mobile terminal receives a class identifier and receives a broadcast message with a backoff period definition for multiple classes of mobile terminals. The mobile terminal applies the class identifier to the backoff period definition to determine a backoff interval for the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal sends, to a base station, a radio resource control (RRC) connection request using the calculated backoff interval. Different backoff intervals are assigned to different classes of mobile terminals to control network access congestion at the base station.
